Just in case anyone is interested. I finally found a shop in Chinatown that sells a suitable material. It's rubber I think, about 2mm thick and 4.2kg/m2. The shop is at the Maha Chak / Luang junction. In a properly designed absorber this stuff will soak up low freq's right down below 40Hz.

There's also quite a few shops on Thanon Suapa selling materials suitable for home theatre / studio acoustic treatments. Just walk north up Suapa towards the hospital from Charoen Krung.
