Peppper Spray Or Taser For My Gf?

Recommended Posts

So I have become paranoid about letting my girlfriend walk alone at night. I am always worried that some sicko will try to rob her or even worse.

I'm thinking about arming her with pepper spray or a taser, or BOTH. My only questions is: Which one is more effective / has biggest chanse of "success"?

And of course, are these tools legal in Thailand?

Cheers.

Point 1 they are not tools....they are weapons

Point 2 - yes they are technically illegal

Most effective in your situation would be pepper spray, as the "TASER's" for sale in Thailand are not real ones

On a side bar once the GF has her chosen weapon...dont p*ss her off otherwise she will be practising on you

You might try this suggestion. Her riding the public transport, traveling with friends, or going to pick her up and then you will have some control. I would guess she also has a Mobile phone, add a whistle and she is good to go.The secret is for her not to get into a situation where she needs any of the options.

Granted I did not answer your question, but I have, and have had children, girl friends, and a wife or two who have brought this subject up, as well as the possibility of a knife/handgun. The mentioned options are what have worked for me.

Exactly - good advice.

Some time ago I checked this out at my local police station and was told, these weapons are not legal.

Best that the OP make inquiries with the police first, as I don`t know for sure.

She will need a quick-draw arrangement and the will/resolve to use the weapon if it is to be of any practical use,

otherwise it is a liability, pure and simple

My wife was down to Future Park Mall Rangsit last night with friends, I'd come home earlier. She called about 2100 hrs for her sister to taxi down and pick her up, wasn't about to ride in a taxi for 30-45 minutes out on the Ongkarak road at night.

Good idea, as far as I'm concerned, the taxi fare was worth it. Plus, I don't like to drive at night on this road, traffic while not all that heavy, is still dangerous, especially the motorcycles with no tail light.

Did I read this right. You werenot about to ride a taxi on that road at night ,but thought nothing of her sister going alone one way to get her and come back with her. I wish to nominate you for gentleman of the year award.

As long as she's not out in the 'early' hours she will be fine.

Even if she is out in the early hours its unlikely that anything bad will happen.

When I read the title for the post i thought..........that's a bit harsh :whistling:

What is your girlfriends opinion on this idea? After all you did say it was you that was..........paranoid.

Well, as far as I wrote. The sister went down with another friend in a taxi from our mooban that we use all the time and know the owner well. Thus, three known people in the taxi, driver, sister, friend, four on the trip back home.

Not so "bad," now, right??

Some people just don't get it………Do they…All weapons are double edged! Don't believe me, check out the number of people killed and injured by THERE own weapons, in the USA alone….it far out ways injures, or death to the bad guys!!

Personal safety is about being aware of your surroundings and not placing yourself in harm's way. Anyone who negates this rule and carries a weapon to make themselves feel safe………Well, that miss-placed confidence will bite your ass, It's just a matter of time before you find this out.

I suspect most of these small pepper sprays....I have tried one.....are not very high pressure and you need conditions right....no backbreeze, cannot use for dogs on bike, etc.

I'd be interested to know if a more powerful version is available, perhaps at those 'police' shops.

May be useful to have at hand next to the car seat.

A travel sized can of Lynx can also be used to good effect when sprayed in someones eyes, even better when used in conjunction with a cigarette lighter.

'Spoonman' no disrespect mate…………… but you the man..ha ha. Is this you in self-defense mode? I would pay to see you whip out your deterrent combo on a flower girl or wooden frog seller, (that's if there good enough to wait around for you to set-up to defend yourselves)….Something tells me you would set fire to your own hand! Or is your; "used in conjunction with a cigarette lighter" one of sucking-up, (so you don't get a beating) by appeasing your potential attacker with a nice smell and a light for his fag!

Come on 'Spoonman' it's a quiet afternoon; let's have some more in prove, killer self-defense weapons…..Please.

You do know the A-Team are not real…….Right?

Tonto, grab a can and spray it into your eyes then tells us about your experience.

Something about this shocking topic smells....

Is the equipment to be used on or used by your girlfriend....maybe you should discuss your preferences with her

Either way, those of you who do have female companions and are concerned for their safety when out at night, advise them to carry their cellphone in their bra. That way they get mugged, they can call for help.
