Suvarnabhumi Launches TV Channel

World Entertainment Network has launched a television channel catering to air travelers, after it won the concession to manage Suvarnabhumi Airport's television broadcasting service.

It projects to rake in 200 million baht over five years for the Airports of Thailand.

World Entertainment Network Managing Director Mr. Ammarit Klomjitjaroen has announced that World Entertainment Network has been granted the concession to operate Suvarnabhumi Airport's first ever television service, for the next five years.

A total of 500 million baht has been invested for the establishment of the Airport Vision television network.

The program will broadcast news on Thailand and programs on Thai tourist attractions, and promote Thai-made products for air travelers at Suvarnabhumi Airport, in a bid to strengthen Thailand's image.

In return, the World Entertainment Network plans to hand 20 percent of the expected one billion baht revenue in five years to the Airports of Thailand.

Airport Vision Managing Director Thun Hiransap stated that there are more than 50 million people going through Suvarnabhumi Airport each year and presenting TV content from over 300 channels can be a challenging task.

In Airport Vision's first phase, Thun explained that TV programs will be broadcast on 310 LCD screens about royal projects under the patronage of His Majesty the King, as well as documentaries, commercials, and airport news.

In its second phase, Airport Vision will expand to satellite and cable television.

World Entertainment Network is a company specializing in TV and satellite media, and produces commercials for both private and public television and radio such as the Bangkok Channel, Mahad Thai Channel, and ABAC Channel.

If it is properly executed, it could be a great thing. Flight schedules and real-time info for arrivals and departures were available on the tube would be useful for sure.

"Properly executed" are the key words though, because the information would have to be up to date, accurate and reliable. We all know how those kind of projects go in Thailand.

Has the makings of being a loser though. Considering that most people nowadays have access to the internet, very few will turn to the TV for information like this anymore.

I think that info is now available at the new information kiosks (large information hubs of touchscreens on a angled displaycase) that is now being installed throughout the airport. International company supplying it.
