How Can I Stop Google Showing Pages In Thai?

Featured Replies

I have a problem with Google defaulting to Thai language when displaying search results, or when shifting between Google applications. This happens even though I'm signed in and have 'English' selected as language preference.

Is there a way to stop it? I'm going crazy. Thanks.

Before you could type in www.google.com/ncr but not sure if that method is still working.

Did you try to click 'advanced search' and then set the languge (drop down menu) to English?

I mean that the whole interface changes to Thai. The above will let me specify English search results but the interface is still in Thai.

Google and most sites know your location so they give you the local download of google or whatever you download.

I use filehippo.com to download my software as I get software that is not related to my location, if I download mozilla, then it will be the American version not the Thai version. Each time Mozilla asks for me to update I say no, then I will go back to filehippo to check if the latest update is on there to download.

I'm not certain as not in Thailand at the moment, but isn't there the option "English" in small letters underneath where you enter text?

Alternatively, you could try www.google.co.uk

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

Why? :rolleyes:

If you're running Firefox (en-US), you will only receive updates in "en-US".

What's so hard about typing www.google.com? Save as bookmark. Works for me!

I have Google in English on all my browsers, so I am pretty sure this still works:

1 - Go to the Google homepage at http://www.google.com/

2 - At the bottom of the page, click on the link "Google.com in English"

Done. Now all your searches via search bar go to Google.com / English. No Thai results. I suppose this is stored in some sort of Cookie, so if it doesn't work for you, enable Cookies.

Still works. Just copy it to homepage on internet options and it will direct to Google in English everytime.

Thanks, that seems to work. At least so far. Goodbye google.co.th!

clear the cache and set to no history saved in your browser

Argh it's happening again.

I've cleared the cache (absolutely everything), turned off location, checked my language preferences in mail, search, docs. Nothing works, although adding &hl=en to a URL will switch it back to English in most cases. Could it be a Chrome 'feature'?

My Google Thailand always seems to remember that I want it to display in English but I sometimes have problems with other websites that think they are being smart in displaying in the language of my location and don't have an English language option. The worse being when we had a satellite uplink to the head office and all websites displayed in Korean.

Argh it's happening again.

Add "Thai" to the Language and spell-checker settings in Chrome. Search results should now be in English.

Oh yeah, that's a Chrome "feature". I forgot. The steps described above work for all other browsers. But not for Chrome.

Yep, it works. :)

If you want google.co.th to return results in English, add "Thai" to language settings (post #16).

Firefox search plugin

Here's a quick guide to making Google searches from the Search bar behave the way you want. If you use the Search bar on a regular basis (like I do), learning how to tweak it can make things a bit easier.

PART I: Force search results in English or your preferred language.

a. Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

If using Windows 64-bit, C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

b. Open google.xml with Notepad;

c. Add the following color coded parameters

<SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/">

<ShortName>Google</ShortName>

Google Search

<InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding>

<MozParam name="client" condition="defaultEngine" trueValue="firefox-a" falseValue="firefox"/>

<SearchForm>http://www.google.com/</SearchForm>

</SearchPlugin>

d. Save file and restart Firefox.

Change the values in blue to fit your needs accordingly.

PART II: Search and display results from a specific Google country domain.

(Google Canada is used below)

<SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/">

<ShortName>Google Canada</ShortName>

Google Search

<InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding>

<MozParam name="client" condition="defaultEngine" trueValue="firefox-a" falseValue="firefox"/>

<SearchForm>http://www.google.ca/</SearchForm>

</SearchPlugin>

- Save file as "google-ca.xml".

Include search parameters as you see fit. For example, if you want results displayed in French instead of English (default), add . Custom templates must be saved to the searchplugins folder; create as many templates as you like. To use, simply select it from the search engine drop down menu.

HAVE FUN!
