Seizure of Chuwit's Bt3.4 million related to prostitution ring

Court found condoms as strong evidences implicating Chuwit

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to seize Bt3.4 million from Rak Prathet Thai MP Chuwit Kamolvisit in connection with his suspected involvement in the prostitution ring.

The high court verdict was based on the civil proceedings under the money laundering law and would not impact on Chuwit's political office.

Although the lower court and the subsequent appellate reivew ruled in Chuwit's favour by citing his acquittal in the criminal proceedings, the high court said under the money laundering law, the defence had the burden of proof but failed to verify how the assets in question were amassed.

The case came to light after the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation, a women advocacy group, fiiled a police complaint charging that massage parlours run by Chuwit were a front for sex trade.

The prosecution launched separate criminal and civil proceedings against Chuwit and his holding company, Ho Pacific Co which operated a number of massage parlours.

By the time the case reached the judicial review, Ho Pacific and its subsidiaries had Bt3.4 million left in various bank accounts.

Among key defence arguments were that massage parlours were a legitimate business, that massage services were not illicit sex trade and that the criminal trial had ended with the verdict of acquittal.

The high court ruled that there was cause to suspect the sex trade as the company's record showed it spent Bt112,559 to buy condoms in 2002 alone. A number of former workers testified how they were trained and coerced to provide sexual services.

Furthermore a large number of disposed condoms were uncovered at various parlours run by Chuwit.

Under the verdict, the cause to suspect ill-gotten gains had warranted the asset seizure order. The defence did not prove how the assets came into its possession.

This wouldn't be related to another casino revelation he's just made (according to B.P.) ?

I think so.

He did Thaksin's mob a great favor when he exposed that 1st gambling den.

I would imagine he expected some favor in return. It would be interesting to know who's hurting from his latest expose.

Let's see what he does next ...

Chuwit is innocent. This is a politically motivated act by the Government. :whistling:

Part a ) utter balderdash.

Part b ) without a doubt.

So the Supreme Court, the same venerable Institution you were all lauding to the heavens during the Democrat Governments term of office, have in the space of two months suddenly become open to political interference by the PTP?

"...his holding company, Ho Pacific Co"

:cheesy:

Chuwit use to work as a door man at a NYC gogo bar....can you imagine that ? LOL

While i think Chuwit is a refreshing change from other politicians, the ends dont justify the means....and it's only because he is now rich that he is trying to come across as a savior. If he wasn't rich he'd still be the common pimp and wouldn't give a rat's ass about anyone. - new money syndrome.

We all know that whatever crime is committed that any non favourable verdict is given it's classed as, the supreme runaways catchword ---politically motivated....----------any wrong doing here, people actually believe they have done NOTHING....even if it is totally against the law and is glaring you in the face.

As was stated after the election verdict --you get what you deserve--they are in power--enjoy JergenG

No, it stems from the first Thaksin government.

Not in my eyes. Since when is calling a pimp a pimp considered biased. I think the others have only misread the date from which this case stems.

Condoms were found in massage parlours? And sex services were provided there? Really? Unbelievable !

How can someone imagine that such a thing can happen?

Probaly it just started , they will look into all he is doing ... but he can look into also what this judges doing ,and have done probaly.. They need arrest 90 prosent of all massage places then in Thailand . But the others learn from this , do not put condom buy into the acounting.

When did they start look this guy in the cards? Just after he blow open some cases himself ?

Can also ask , where is the all other companys they controlled , what about court case for them?

Guess it's time to reopen those initial criminal case files.

Those same people were coerced into voting for thaksin as well, aka a bribe.

Yes I know. However my theory is that although this case has been pending for awhile, he expected that by helping out the Thaksin mob with the police leadership shake-up, he expected some favorable ruling from the court .... you know ... like the courts recently ruling that "terrorists" are instead "criminal associates" or whatever ... and like the courts recently ruled that Ponjaman doesn't have to pay taxes .... and whatever other 180 degree turns the courts may be making in the coming weeks and months to brown nose the new powers that be. I think Chuwit expected this kind of favorable treatment.

So he was today disappointed or perhaps even POed by the court ruling on his case and so he blew the whistle on another casino ... and so I wonder who may be the big financial loser behind this new casino revelation. And I wonder if Chuwit is still pissed enough that he will reveal another one or two in the coming days. He probably knows about dozens of them along with a lot of other vice venues here in the Land of Smiles.

You were all lauding! You have your wires crossed. I have never lauded any of the judicary in Thailand as I consider it also under the influence of political favour if not by way of monetary advantage then by political pressure especially by those parties who are prepared to commit "terrorism", ops, how forgiving "criminal assocation".

If you need any further clarification of that go back to the original court ruling that started all this mess on the criminal fugitive/chief thief in 2001 where the ruling was not whether the criminal fugitive was guilty or not but under political pressure of violence if the court did not rule in favour of the mob's poor little Thaksin. That was the day that justice in Thailand came under question and the door was opened wider for any thief or mobster to do as they wish.

I find this sentence the most disturbing...

I would hope that any guilty verdict in such blatant criminal activities would automatically trigger a removal from office, regardless of civil or criminal.

Or is this acceptable in all democracies?
