Yum to appeal verdict on sacked workers

The Nation

Yum Restaurant International (Thailand) will file a case with the Labour Court after the Labour Relations Committee resolved that it must rehire three employees it had sacked earlier.

In a statement, Yum, which runs the KFC and Pizza Hut franchise in Thailand, said it was also thinking about filing a lawsuit on the issue and hoped that an internationally acceptable verdict would be issued.

It also thanked the Labour Relations Committee for trying to resolve the issue of the dismissal of the employees, who were sacked for violating the company's regulations/code of conduct.

"It was a difficult decision to let go of our longtime, valuable staff - though they were compensated. However, it was unavoidable because the company honours law, regulations and code of conduct, and expects its staff to do the same in order to maintain international standards. Nevertheless, as a lawabiding organisation, the company will honour the committee's decision to take back the employees, until decisions come out otherwise," Yum said in a statement.
