Red-Shirt Villages' Nationwide 'Federation'

On the bright side its good to know that as mainly expats on TV we have the ability and option to leave, unlike the poor unfortunate Thais who are stuck here.

I wonder if push really came to shove, how many of the retired expat wrinkles could actually afford to buy a plane ticket out ?

Most posters don't want to leave as they have their families here, so the reason for staying is not financial (or so they say)

Pure BS. They like the laid back lifestyle and Happy Smiley People.

Thaksin, Jatuporn & Co. Ltd. are digging the earth so deep in order to lay a strong foundation so that the edifice of the next Thaksin regime cannot be destroyed. Thaksin's red tentacles will soon reach every part of Thailand from Bangkok to Chiang Rai to the border with Cambodia. If Thaksin was not so blinded by power, money, and his belief that he is Thailand's Mandela and Ghandi, and he was to study history, he would see that regimes, which are not founded in morality, ethics, and a vision of the well-being of the whole nation do not last long. As they fall apart, tyranny and dictatorship set in, which hasten the dictator's downfall and ignominy. He will create one huge mess before he and his red tentacles are finally shipped off to Dubai, but the Thais will learn from the experience and the country will leap forwards in a positive direction. Since this scenario has repeated itself countless times in history, it's a pity that we can't just skip the suffering part.

When has the country leaped forward 'in a positive' direction, and under whose administration?

I'm certainly no fan of Taksin but the Other Lot seem only interested in maintaining the status quo and very little else. What did Mark actually DO whilst he was 'in' for instance? Sweet sod all, and despite reading over and over again he was being hamstrung by the Red Shirt faction comprising his coalition, that only washes a little bit. Gutless wimp. Can you imagine Taksin being similarly cowed?

These Red communes should be nipped in the bud before it's too late. When the coup comes(and it will with how PTP are running things), the Army needs to put a stop to this.

Well I can see where you're coming from.

Who needs elections when you've got the thai army to sort things out. They're sooooo incorruptible.

This is a very dangerous development and opens up for bullying of people with a different opinion. Not that that hasn't happened in a number of "red" villages for a few years already, but when it's organised on a nationwide basis, the parallel to former European dictators may not be so far fetched. And as has been shown in Chiang Mai recently, many Thai people have little or no knowledge about historical lessons that could be rather useful for them.

I agree with you I live in an intimidated village, no free opinions here local village head sees to that.

Red shirt fight against dictatorship Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha ...........WHAT !! thats just what they voted in and what they stand for. I do believe seriously things here are going to get ugly for all. you cannot have a situation like this it's unhealthy, how the government got in on lies and now what are they doing-NOWT

My village is much the same and you cannot voice any disagreement over Red Shirts and especially Thaksin. Thank heavens for Chuvit, apart from him being good value it's a very convenient opt-out to say I support him which leaves me nicely 'neutral'.

Did anyone expect anything else from the Megalomaniac?

Sadly Thailand is about to enter one of it's darkest phases. My wife, son and I have a ticket booked to England next Aug if things degenerate too much we'll be going sooner.

I thought that 'fight against dictatorship' and 'bring Thaksin back' is a contradiction. Should that not be 'fight against dictatorship' and 'not bring Thaksin back'???????

There is something very sinister going on here and I too dread to think of the future for the poor Thai folks. I wish they would open their eyes.

Perhaps some kind Red-Shirt/PTP person might organise a walking-group, to enable any farangs too poor to afford plane-tickets for themselves & their families to leave on-foot, one might give it a nice catchy name like "Death March', and ask Sacred Heart school to provide an escort ? :o

Should bring more good publicity for In-Need-Of-A-Miracle Thailand ! B)

You can tell your friends about the revolting peasants in Thailand.

But seriously:

Here's some suggested reading for you.

Civi Society and Democreatization, Social Movements in Northeast Thailand

by Somchai Phatharathanananunth.

It deals with amongst other things the farmers' Assembly of Isan (SSFAD) and their historic struggles with the elite in Bangkok seeking to improve the lot of the rural thai.

The redshirt movement in part has grown from them.

What we've seen in UK and US, throughout the west the greed of the bankers, the oncoming civil strife in the west you really should have noticed ,living here, the struggle of the ordinary people.

I suspect you wont get much sympathy and most expat thais are distinctly red

Everyone's corrupt but it's the degree of corruption and who's <snip!> this country up more. Thaksin and his cronies are and therefore, it's better to get rid of them and have the lesser of two evils.

Thaksin doesnt need help to be brought back to Thailand, he can come back any time he chooses to...:whistling:

To serve his 2 year prison sentence!!!!;).

What!!! Do you mean Thai's living abroad or expats in Thailand??? If you meant the latter then judging by the ratio of posters slating Thaksin, Pheu Thai, Yingluck and anything red (including Arsenal in my case) as compared to those praising or supporting/defending them then you are undoubtedly mistaken in your thinking on this!!!:jap:.

In that case, does he mean those working in Saudi Arabia and similar countries where they can earn more money?? If so, why do they feel the need to go abroad - unless of course they cannot live in Thailand because of the mismanagement by numerous Thaksinesque governments making it impossible for them to make ends meet!!!!:D.

They only time that Thailand was seen to be getting itself back onto it's feet was with the 2 or so years that the Democrats GOVERNED with responsibility and proficiency - and what do the red shirts do??? they turf them out and put in place someone who hasn't got a clue about what she is doing and is allowing a fugitive to interfere in everything with just one thing on his mind - and it's not the welfare of the Thai people!!!.

Can you imagine you have to live in such a village?

Things in Thailand are getting more and more like Germany under Hitler and The Soviet Union under Stalin.

It's 'Heil Thaksin' or else.

hbullinger, perchance, are you an American? Your gift for hyperbole is astonishing.

But astonishingly hbullinger is Bang on the mark.....

So, I am the only person here who has a problem with comparing red-shirts or any large group of Thai people with Nazi Germany and Herr Hitler? Really? Do you really think the comparison is valid? Do you not remember WWII, and the blitzkrieg? The horror of the Holocaust? You are comparing Thai people to that? Or Stalin, and his slaughter of millions? Please, this is ridiculous banter and I will point it out any time I see it, thank you very much. Thai people really do not have "ideology", which is why they will never be goose-stepping through the streets of Beijing or rounding up people for the gas chambers. If it is true, that so many people on this site think like this, then I ask, why the heck are you living amongst such supposedly evil people? If true, that so many expats here think like this, then perhaps we are more of a threat to Thailand's future than some left leaning Thai party. Give me a break!!

They wouldn't be poor (and unfortunate) if it were not for the centuries of oppression by the ruling elite.

I think that this might be just a little bit irrelevant in this day of age!!!!.

Just who has been in government for a majority of the last 20 years ie: take out Abhisit's 2 years???? I think that they are poor because of the corruption and incompetence of THESE governments and not the ruling elites from centuries ago, don't you????:jap:. I think that you have been reading too many books about the past (you know, a long time ago), my friend!!

As the reds champion democracy, how democratic is the establishment of these red villages?

Who decided that they were red? Where in a democracy do you have such enclaves?

Alas, the general ignorance of the populace and their idolisation of moolah, please don't tell me Thailand is in anyway educated or Buddhist, has them thinking that democracy equals zero tolerance and government handouts. The fact that the handouts are a pittance and will stop when those in power have established their Hitlerite regime never occurs to them.

Was there a coincidence in the Nazi parade being in Chiang Mai. You only have to look at their leader's ranting speaches to realise who his role model is.

Good luck Thailand. You're gonna need it.

Police Second Lieutenant Kamolsilp Singhasuriya must be very young or his police career was a complete failure, if he never made it beyond Second Lieutenant. I am surprised he uses his police rank, if he is retired. The convention in Anglo Saxon countries is I believe for retired military officers to use their military ranks in civilian life, only if they retired at major or above and to put "Rtd" after their name to make clear they are retired. Thaksin used to also use the lowly rank of Police Captain until he was promoted to Police Lieutenant Colonel many years after his retirement from the police.

Oh come now. Democracy is not the goal. The goal is to stir the pot more rapidly. It's not going fast enough for the people who voted for this rabble. And they want what was promised now. And they still believe Mr. T can give it to them even if his sister does not give it to them. What they don't understand is they are getting all they are going to get. Everybody that can read knew the current government could not keep 95% of their promises.

This entire forum is nothing but hyperbole, it is astonishing, and most of the members are from Europe. Besides that, I have found that it is almost unanimous that Europeans dislike Thaksin and the red-shirts, where the vast majority of Americans have supported the red-shirts (at least their cause more than Thaksin himself), so if you go with the statistical odds, it would be more likely a European making this comment than an American. Another fact pointing in that direction is that more Europeans suffered under Stalin and Hitler than did Americans and would probably have much more reason to use them in a statement than Americans.

If by their cause you mean helping the poor, you should know that the red shirt movement purely exists as a vehicle to aid Thaksin. Not supporting the red shirts does not equate to not supporting the poor, it equates to not supporting Thaksin. If you support the red shirts, you are supporting Thaksin, whether that be your intention or not.

Before you laugh it off, take a look at history. Communes? Red guards, brown guards who have no official powers but have appointed themselves as 'protectors' of the government? You don't have look all the way in Europe, how do you think the Khmer Rouge started out? Shit starts somewhere and if you think the examples can't happen here, you're sorely mistaken. If no one clamps down on these thugs, it WILL happen. When the Army stages their next coup, they better do something about these Red Shirts.
