Hello, i need some advice for a visa a run to either Laos or Cambodia. I need to leave as soon as possible preferably tomorrow my current tourist visa from Cambodia will expire this Friday, been told in visa shop in Pattaya that even if i go to Laos am not guaranteed to get a 60 day, likewise with Cambodia i called the same agent i used last time been told the tourist visa i got from that travel agent at the border 6 months ago for around 6,000 baht with a one night stay, that i cant do this again due to new rules or something. So at the moment agent in pattaya is tellin me that my best bet is to pay 12,000b for them to sort it without leaving for 3 months. Do i have an other cheaper options than this, any help will be much appreciated. thanks

"...my current tourist visa from Cambodia will expire this Friday..."

A tourist visa can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

"So at the moment agent in pattaya is tellin me that my best bet is to pay 12,000b for them to sort it without leaving for 3 months."

Depending on exactly what they would do, it might be illegal. If it is, you are the one in trouble if discovered.

Per above, it sounds dodgy.

If you want to stay long time in Thailand, you might want to have a look at the ED-vis. Most people use it to study at a language school, but it is not limited to studying Thai. As long as the institution you are studying is recognised.

Cost would be around 28,000 per year for a Thai language course, plus 1,900 baht every 90 days for an extensions of stay.

Thanks for replies, i have already extended by 30 days too at jomtiem i forgot to mention, so really need to do the visa run but haven't a clue were to go at the moment. i was going to go to Laos until the lady in the travel agent suggested i might not get a visa from them due to the new strict rules. Cambodia i have done many times before being here over a year but when i called the agent i used last time to give me a 6 month tourist visa they too said they cant do it due to the new strict rules. The 12,000b for 3 months from travel agent in pattaya is the last thing i want to do, but i heard they say your to sick to travel anywhere and that is how they get the visa for you that way.

That is an extension based on medical grounds (you being unfit to travel). That would be falsifying documents and making false statements, which can lead to prosecution.

How many previous tourist visa's do you have in your passport? I would give Laos a try but through an agent. There was an old guy with us who said he has been living here on Tourist Visa's and now has to use an agent to keep getting them. As far as I know the new strict requirements only are being enforced by Cambodia, as nothing was required except the standard stuff in Laos.

No affiliation with them, but I’ve used Queen Vic on Soi 6 twice for tourist visas from Laos.

No hitch and haven’t heard of any others that had a problem with either.

Head on down and talk to them, they will let you know what your options are.

A guy I know 'bought' a visa inside Thailand and upon leaving the country was arrested for having an illegal visa and spent 3 months in a Thai prison. I also know a girl that did this and was locked up for months. These are recent cases. I don't think it is worth the risk. Go and get a proper visa at an embassy or consulate.
