looks to me like it may be a Checkered Keelback, a nonpoisonous snake that eats fish and is often found after rain and during floods. Google it and you'll find many pictures to compare. They are found everywhere in Thailand.

I've found that native cats and dogs somehow know the difference between dangerous and non-dangerous snakes.

My dogs unfortunately kill the non-dangerous snakes they find, whereas they bark v aggressively at cobras.

Isn't that better than the other way round? If they went for the cobras, they might not last long.

One of my dogs has been killing cobras for years, but then she kills all snakes, poisonous or not, she has a very good technique but as she ages and slows down I get more and more concerned. It usually happens when there is no one around so its difficult to get her to stop.

A neighbors dog was killed by a cobra, she too was an accomplished snake killer but slowed down just that much, got bit and the hospital refused to sell the anti-venin for a dog. They said, they only had a limited amount and couldn't take the chance a person might need it, so the dog died.

My dog (to my relief) does not try to catch snakes. He barks for me to come help instead, using his special "Come here right now, there's a problem" bark, which is utterly distinct from his "guard dog in action" bark and his "help the cat is tormenting me bark". .

Last time he did it, there was a snake in his bed.

he does a number on the frog population, tho
