Depends where one is going.

Mobile phone ?

 

GPS, iPod, charged up Kindle (lasts a month reading 4-5 hours per day).

Pocket knife. Blood pressure meds.

Always carry an over-shoulder small knapsack. Snacks. Bottle of water.

Vitamin I (Ibuprofen)

Clothes

Last trip to Thailand was for 3 weeks and I took.

1. 4 tshirts

2. 3 pairs of shorts

3. 1 pair of sandals

4. Sunglasses

5. Toothbrush and paste

6. Condoms

7. Passport

8. Mobile phone

9. Razor

10. Visa card

That was it, I didn't need to buy anything but wasn't worried. If I needed anything I knew I could buy it in Thailand a lot cheaper than I can in my own country.

The saying is:

Put together what you think you need and pack half of it.

Toilet paper, earplugs and a raincoat aren't exactly essential.

What are you going to do with your electronic gadgets if there's no electricity? Same goes for your Visa card as ATM's wouldn't be working either. It will get you cash from the bank though if you have your passport and if the bank has cash.

The comment about condoms isn't so frivoulous as they will protect quite a few small items from water. Perhaps that's why the French and Spanish call them preservatives :rolleyes:

After 20 odd years travelling all over the world ....For me when travelling...The basics.....

Passport, credit card, a few days cash and the clothes on your back...everything else can bought if you need it.....
