Maybe it's because Northern Europe struggles with the Thai in the same way that the US or the French didn't have a clue about IndoChina.

Educated comments appreciated. I'm tired of farangs blaming the Isaan woman for taking his money.

There is no demographic, nor gender imbalance to mans inhumanity to man/woman, or the blame game, or the belief that a woman has power over a man, no matter how they justify their actions.

They wander blindly into their own IaDrang Valley or Dien Ben Phu and then blame everybody else for their poor choice, without acceptance that they themselves are at fault.

You can take responsibility or you can abdicate reason, like the saying goes, uptoyou

And I would stand in front of an IndoChine gook faced by a farang with an M16 anyday.

There are plenty of farangs like me.

Up to them.

Good on 'em.

I still can't believe they haven't made T-shirts here. Up2U or Up2Me?.

It's so Thai.

Amazingly, according to google... you can get the T-shirts....

Many farang women aren't too impressed with Thai women.

Once upon a time you dressed so fine

You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you ?

People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"

You thought they were all kiddin' you

You used to laugh about

Everybody that was hangin' out

Now you don't talk so loud

Now you don't seem so proud

About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be without a home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone ?

You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely

But you know you only used to get juiced in it

And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street

And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it

You said you'd never compromise

With the mystery tramp, but know you realize

He's not selling any alibis

As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes

And say do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone ?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns

When they all come down and did tricks for you

You never understood that it ain't no good

You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you

You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat

Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat

Ain't it hard when you discover that

He really wasn't where it's at

After he took from you everything he could steal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone ?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people

They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made

Exchanging all precious gifts

But you'd better take your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe

You used to be so amused

At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used

Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse

When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose

You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone ?

Up to me.

Regards.

Ha, you only think it's up to you.

The adage applies, if you're in a card game and after five minutes you haven't figured out who the mark is, it's you.

Whose talking about gambling and cheating?

If I was a TV moderator I might judge this 'off topic'.

Happy to play cards with you KeyserSoze01 for some R&R. You'd probably win. Regards.

Whooosh!

I'm not sure, what do you think?

up 2 u

No,no,no.......Up 2 U!

Look at his nick name... he was obviously dreaming... forgot to tell us about the concept he was dreaming of :D

And if the Thai take money from the Swiss or the Russians I will applaud.

Nothing worse than a chav from a council estate in Moscow in Thailand.

Demographics? Bullshit.

Common sense.

Many farang women aren't too impressed with Thai women !! and vice versa.

Gook is an insulting remark.

I take it you like Bob Dylan.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing !! empty words from a political rebel, whoes surname summed him up perfectly.

Which 56 divisions of psychology are you studying ?.

Relax Kwasaki.

Please accept my apologies for causing confusion.

Agree. Many Thai women unimpressed with farang woman.

Agree. Gook is insulting. My wife is Thai and some would call her a gook.

Bob Dylan song was used in an attempt to illustrate the point that farang woman with no money finds it tough, especially when they have had plenty.

Triumph over evil borrowed from another poster. No disrespect. Seemed an OK sentiment given I spend most of my working life with yes men who protect their a**.

Nickname KD. Probably an ill advised choice for a poster on TV. Kamala Dreams hotel Phuket very significant in my life journey.

Reverse psychology, or farang trying to be clever with words, I don't know.

Apologies.

Thanks for your post.

There are several interpretations of the Thai girl's "up to you" in the Thai vernacular, with the most common being:

"Make me an offer."

or

"Make a decision you spineless twit!"

Depends on the context, of course.

Berkshire has nailed it.

The last post on a topic that, if it didn't exist, TV wouldn't either.

Respect.

Have you noticed that most women, when asked, where they would like to eat or what they'd like to do, shrug their shoulders like Duh? Then, when you decide where to eat or what to do, they say you're stupid. It's sort of the same thing, sometimes,. It's a no win situation.

Why would you ask her what she wants to do?

You are the man, your job to tell her. (which is what she is indicating with the shrug)

'Up to you' is my most hated phrase here.

Not from women (we all say that regardless of nationality) - but from taxi drivers, workmen etc. etc.

It is so obvious that they are hoping that you will pay more than you should, and would turn down anything too cheap...

I only need that response once to never use them again.

I totally agree with you, just give me a quote, use the meter, etc. Can you imagine what would happen if at the end of a cab ride or whatever you said up to me and I will give you (insertinsanely low price here)?Anyway, at least you realise that the decision to use their services is "up to you." :-)

Translating UP 2 YOU:

In almost all cases where a farang is dealing with a Thai, UP 2 YOU is never actually "up to you." If you are haggling over a purchase, "up to you" is just an initiation point and nothing more. The Thai vendor/seller knows his/her lowest acceptable price and won't go lower than that so "up to you" is not "up to you," it's up to the vendor/seller. If a Thai lady tells you it's "up to you" be assured, once again, it's never up to you. A bar girl operates the same way as a vendor/seller does; she has her required price. If the punter offers a fee which is lower than what she wants she will quickly inform you of this. If you offer a fee which is higher than she expects, she will quickly agree on this. If your Thai wife, or girlfriend, says "up to you" be assured that it is never "up to you." It is a veiled threat that you will suffer the consequences if you decide that it's "up to you." Therefore, you can see, it's never UP 2 YOU.

MEGALITHIC,

Could not have it wrote better, very good explanation!jap.gif

You decide what she's worth, and you make your choice.

Same for her. She decides what you are worth, and she makes her choice.

If you ain't worth nothing she'll take all your money.

Same in isaan, same in patong, same in phetchabun....same in berkshire.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing !! empty words from a political rebel, whoes surname summed him up perfectly.

Empty? Rather full of honest meaning I would suggest. But his fight for the relaxation of trade rights between Ireland and britain, for alleviating laws against Catholics, the outcome of his defence of the American War of Independence, or his opposition to the French Revolution are debatable, but eloquently put.

However being a founder member of what would eventually form the Conservative Party, I can only agree with you, the burk part that is, the rest simply needs to be ignored.

Off Topic of course and should be deleted!!

Off topic maybe, but who is to judge?

I'm not sure I've grasped the subtlety or sophistication of this post from Mossfinn and my knowledge of the historical events referred to is not comprehensive.

So the only way for me is to play it is with a straight bat. I have a Thai wife who some might call a gook, a home in Phetchabun surrounded by ricefields, and have no difficulty imagining what it must have been like when US helicopter gunships appeared over Vietnamese villages.

I believe in the concept of 'leasing but not owning', epitomised very eloquently by the 'bird tables' outside every thai home and office building, and have great sympathy for the native american indian who had a wigwam on the land that the twin towers were built on.

Too much information? Easy to delete.
