The US Ambassador to Thailand has completely and utterly refuted reports that the Thai government turned down US Navy help. Not only that, but she stressed that communications with the Thai government have been very clear:

Earlier this week the TAN network provoked the outrage of UNESCAP by falsely implying that they had been critical of Thai government efforts:

http://asiancorrespondent.com/67898/thai-media-misquote-sparks-outrage-by-un/

To their credit, TAN issued an apology after receiving a very strong letter critical for what they did:

Now today we learn that the Pentagon has actually praised Thai government efforts:

Note that the refusal issue has been since discredited by the US ambassador

There is no longer any doubt that influential people in Thailand are feeding and spinning stories like these with the sole purpose of discrediting the current government. We see it in big lies like these stories, and the constant negative spin appearing in the .... , the Post, and Manager.

Just one more example, while Yingluk was wading through flood water in expensive boots, where do you think Abhisit was?

He was in the Maldives, a fact that he has acknowledged, along with a very weak explanation.

Link is in Thai, but headline reads "Democrat Spokesman admits Mark was in Maldives, but at invitation of President" I bet you didn't know, and why should you, since it is difficult to find word of this in the English language media here.

If anyone else even peripherally related to the current government had chosen this time to vacation or even travel overseas the Nation and Post would have had headlines down to the fold letting us know about this perfidy.

Not disinformation - more like misinformation.

Blaming ex-pms for being out of country - speaking of which where is the one before Mark?

Good one James!

Wonder how much that one gave to help the flood victims. Can't have been much, if anything, or they'd have been trumpeting it all over the tv!

Look behind the words, just a diplomatic nicety, nothing more, nothing less.

Packing his bags for the return to Thailand in Dec.

Why should he be in the floods ,she is the PM her job ,her problem

Oh, I see, when the opposition is out of power they have no responsibilities to Thailand at all? Is that how it works in your world? Unfortunately when you are 24/7 criticizing the government response it behooves you to stay in the country during the crisis and offer as much support as you can. That is what 'loyal oppositions' do in most parliamentary systems. Unfortunately here it is just an opportunity to bring down the government, the crisis and the people be damned.

It would be more impressive if the praise came from the President. The Pentagon- just who was doing the praising- would be informative to know?

Strangely, it seems to me that I recall some recent news where the two parties were working together rather well; hadn't the PM called the ex-PM to come in and offer advice about the flooding (which he did)? Your description (opposition... 24/7 criticizing the government response) doesn't seem to quite square with the reality, if you are talking about the ex-PM and his relationship to the current PM regarding the crisis...

Someone around here certainly does seem disinformed....?

Hmmmm. plenty of posters on here been saying that Abhisit was an "illigitimate" PM. If that is the case, he really has no place to be involved in an official capacity.

Anyway, the gov't are stuffing it up quite well without adding another voice to the chorus.

What do you expect Abhisit to be doing exactly?

He has zero control, zero access to Government funds and zero ability to make decisions.

He is in a no-win situation, and I'm sure being part of Yinglucks failure is not high on his agenda.

As much as it pains him to see Thai people suffering, there is nothing he can do. He is not trying to bring down the Government and in fact has been available when requested.

Trying to defocus attention away from Yingluck and somehow onto Abhisit is silly.

What is an illigitimate PM?

What is an illigitimate PM?

Someone who has to spend his time putting out shopping mall fires and the like instead of managing flood control?

And isn't this information already in threads running in news? Must we really focus on the political in this time of crisis? Is point scoring that important to you?

Post in threads already running in news.
