Anybody have recommendations on where to buy really good office chair? I cant find a Herman Miller dealer or similar in Chiang Mai, only in BKK and Phuket

Thanks

I have used ModernForm office chairs around my round dining table for 10 years and they are as good as the day I bought them. I like a swivel chair with wheels. They also repair any that are damaged due to heavy use. They are fabric covered but they must use a iron weave as no wear shows. Needless to say they are pricey but you do get what you pay for in this line.

Their store is located in Chiang Mai on the Super Highway across from Northern Tesco.

I used to own a Hermann Miller Aeron chair when I lived in Los Angeles. Never seen anything close to that here. Seems to me they would have to go for about 45-50,000 Baht if they were available. Probably not many takers in C.M. to bother stocking them.

The nicest office chairs I have seen here were some they had at Global House but that was a long time ago. They were about 15,000 Baht on up. Last time I was there all the high-end office furniture was gone. They have some nice things at Index Living Mall. At least they look nice. But upon close inspection, they are not quality made.

Good luck.

Good tip thanks! Looks like good quality. The SIDIZ model office chair may be just what the OP has in mind.

You could try Chan Furniture (on the super highway just past what used to be Carrefour). If they don't have what you are looking for in stock and if you have the product code then they will probably order it for you :D

Index has some nice ones upstairs in the sectioned off office section, northwest corner. Not sure the make, but they go from about 18k to 50-odd.

Went to Modernform and Index today, Wasn't a huge fan of Index, all their desks are made to order and would take up to 3 months, and chairs would take 1-3 weeks from BKK. Bought in Modernform, although they didnt have the Sidiz thing in stock, delivering Monday

When INDEX was still using a small dealer on Chiang Moi (about 10 + years ago) road their (the shop I guess) service was excellent.

When they moved to the mall, it become another thing all together.

Do you think this is still the case?

What kind of prices am I looking at for one of these chairs? 15k? 20k?

I'm thinking about paying their BKK shop a visit but I'm reluctant to pay any more than 10k on a chair, and I'll only spend that much if I know they'll repair it if it breaks.

The chair I'm sitting on is going to impale me one of these days :(

Ive just been searching for a good office chair. I went to all the places in this thead and more. By far the best selection I found in the upper price range was at Modern Form. Brought one that was priced at 14,000 baht but with 20% discount got it for a bit over 12,000 baht.

Im delighted with it as I have been wanting to get a decent chair for ages and didnt want to mess around with 2 or 3000 baht chairs.

Comes with a 3 year warranty too. Delivery was free but had to wait 3 weeks so just stuck it in a songtaew as I only have a motorbike.

Wide range of chairs from 1,500 baht up to 30,000 baht office chairs. Index and Global I found to be poor in range of selection though this could of course change from period to period.

If you are delighted with paying 12-30K THB for an office chair from Modernform then good for you.

Their chairs are made in China as a special order for them. I met someone who used to work there and she said they mark up chairs that they pay 2-4K THB to 12-30K THB. Take a look at the construction of them underneath. Check the weld joints. They are no different than chairs you can buy for 4-5K THB. They offer the 3 year warranty because at the profits they make, they can afford to replace them. And when PTT, CP, etc. buy in quantity from them, they don't pay anywhere near the price you see in the showroom. They are a very large operation and specialize in corporate sales.

I bought a beautiful (and very comfortable) Thai-made, executive style chair 5 years ago and paid about 6K THB for it. It lasted 5 years and the welds broke because my kid jumped on it!sad.png I threw it away. When I went to the same seller to look at other chairs and he asked me about the chair I had bought from him, he asked me why I threw it away. Even though the factory warranty was only 1 year, he said he had many spare parts and he could have repaired it for me. Oh well...

I just ordered a great executive chair for a fraction of the price of Modernform. It has no weld joints. I know a thing or two about office chairs as I worked for a friend's company in America for a couple of years supplying NBC, Universal Pictures, etc. with office chairs from Herman Miller, Steel Case, and other high-end brands of chairs. Believing you are getting a better chair because the price is higher is all in the marketing.

+1 for Modernform.

Picked up a really nice ergo chair there (in another city) with memory foam on it, supports just about everything on my body. I think I paid 20k for it, and it was worth every baht. Had it for 4 years now and it's as solid as the day I bought it. It gets a lot of use.

Sorry I did forget to include the name and address of the shop. The g/f has the business card which is only in Thai. When I see her later I'll get the info from her and post it.

I guess electrified hasn't see g/f yet. I hope she isn't lost

I agree that Modernform is quite good. My study room in Bangkok is all furnished with Modernform furniture. For the chair, I think it was B4,900, about 20 years ago. It was confortable but the stem at the base recently broke. The seat, the back, and the headrest were still good but I threw it away anyway. I now use a big PVC lounge chair inserting a sitting pad. That works allright.

In CM, I hastily picked up an office chair at B1,695 when I bought the LED TV at Makro. The chair screeches and It's no good. Guess I'll have to buy a better one and give this to my neighbor like I did with my computer desk.
