Announcement of Warning on Flooding Situation in Bangkok No. 6/2011

With reference to all the announcements of warning on flooding situation in Bangkok that have been issued continuously, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration issues this announcement to further inform public of the flooding situation as it is very evident that the influx of the flood from the northern part of Bangkok has been increasing with speed and in large quantity. Moreover, the high tide has recently been at a high level more than usual resulting in an increase of the level of the water in Chao Phraya River surpassing the recorded levelwhich, consequently, may cause flooding in the areas along the River.

BMA then informs the public and instructs those residing within and outside the barrier along the River to take all necessary precautions. And for the sake of safety they are also instructed to move their valuable belongings, automobiles, electrical outlets, etc., to higher ground and further consider the seeking of accommodation at places saved from flooding, especially at the centers of flood relief operation designated and prepared by BMA , residences of relatives or places of temporary shelters designated by other governmental and private agencies. The public is also instructed to monitor and closely follow development of the situation from announcements issued by BMA or other relating agencies.

BMA urges the public to rest assured that BMA will perform its tasks of preventing, alleviating and improving the flooding situation with the utmost extent of its capabilities. In the event of the potentiality of extreme dangers, BMA has already devised plans for evacuation and assisting people which could be consulted at www.bangkok.go.th or further inquired at district offices or the Center of Flood Relief Operation of BMA

Request for Cooperation from Those Residing along the Chao Phraya River No. 7/2011

With reference to all the announcements of warning on flooding situation in Bangkok that have been issued continuously, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration inform the public as it is very evident that the influx of the flood from the northern part of Bangkok has been increasing with speed and in large quantity. Moreover, the high tide has recently been at a high level more than usual resulting in an increase of the level of the water in Chao Phraya River.

It has been expected that from October 25 to October 29, 2011 the high tide would result in the higher level of water in the River of 20 – 30 cm. above the past usual records. The increase would probably cause flooding in areas along the River.

BMA then request cooperation from people residing along the River to take cares, provide maintenance or reinforce strength of water barriers and walls constructed along the bank of the River for the sake of safety of their lives and belongings and also of preventing influx of flood into residences, roads and adjacent areas of Bangkok. It may be mentioned that these barriers and walls that were constructed for a considerable period of time may not well function and have some point of leakages thus cause a reverse flow of water via internal drainage system of each location.

The public can request for advices, assistance and supports at the district offices and the Center of Flood Relief Operation of BMA, tel no. 1555 and 0-2221-1212 or at www.bangkok.go.th.

“The flooding is beyond our control now,” Pracha Promnog, who heads the government’s flood relief operations, told reporters in Bangkok today. “The main wave of water hasn’t arrived in Bangkok yet.”

A three-meter-deep wall of water that is slowly approaching the capital is key to sparing the city of 9.7 million people from the severity of floods that have inundated about 10,000 factories north of the city. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today that all areas of Bangkok may be flooded for as long as a month.

Don't you just love the panic statements. A 3 meter wall of water.

I was warned by our security gaurd to move out as a wall of water was going to hit last night. Just checked outside and its the same as when I went to bed and very very still accept for the fish jumping and frolicing in the water, they are having a field day.

I have been in the flooded area of Nonthaburi closest to Khaosarn Road, been under water for about 5 days now, some of my mates for over a week and a 1/2.

Everybody is helpful to a point, food is still cheap and water is available. We stocked up before hand.

Am going to tough it out. have my little boat the good ship sinkalot to paddle around in.
