hi all... i did do some cursory searching before posting this so please be gentle if this has been asked a thousand times... :o

i am planning on heading over to Thailand for an extended 'tourist' stay in the next couple months, and from what i gather my best bet is to apply for a double-entry tourist Visa here w/in the US before leaving, which would give me and my wife the most time w/out doing often visa-runs to remain legal... i was told that having a double-entry tourist visa would net us 6 months worth of stay w/ only one visa run in the middle, assuming we purchase two 30-day extensions in the interim... is this correct? is it even possible to get 'triple-entry tourist visa' when coming from the US?

lastly, must we already have airline tickets in hand before heading down to the Thai consulate to get our tourist visa's, or can we just give them the requested dates of of our arrival? and if the latter is possible, if we arrive a day or two later than our tourist visa is set to start will be still be ok going through immigration?

as this isn't the best time to be shopping around for tickets we have been hoping to snap up some decently priced "last minute" seats at some point, but this seems problematic in terms of applying for the tourist visa's...

1. A two or three is often available. Two entry could work as you outline for up to six months and the three could be used for even more (but last use for entry has to be before the six month validity period expires.

2. Ticket may be required at one consulate but not at another. The date of visa will be when you apply and the validity will start then for the 3 or 6 months that it is valid. You can enter at any time during that period.

ah, thx very much for your reply lopburi, much appreciated! so, if we do get our double-entry visa's and arrive later than their designated date, the amount of time provided by the visa will be shortened by however many days late we entered, or will we still get the entirety of the visa's stay amount still? (hope that makes sense!)..

The amount of time you have to use the entry(s) provided is what is affected by the visa dates - not the amount of time you receive on entry. For a tourist visa the entry stamp will be 60 days if you enter on day of visa issue or last day of validity; and you can always extend for 30 days.
