Thailand’s Transport Company Moves its Southern Bus Terminal to Rama 2

Thailand’s Transport Company has closed its southern terminal and moved services to Holland Brewery on Rama 2 after flood waters at the station rose.

Transport Company Managing Director Wuttichat Kalyanimitr says has closed down its southern bus terminal located on Boromratchonnee Road and moved services to the Holland Brewery on Rama 2 instead. He says the action is due to the flood waters inundating Boromratchonnee Road increasing. He says the Holland Brewery on Rama 2 is located near the original terminal and has enough space to occupy services.

Services at the new location will start from this evening (31 Oct) onwards. Commuters set to travel this evening have been informed via telephone. Transportation from the southern terminal to Holland Brewery on Rama 2 is provided in the case of commuters not being informed on time.

Transport Co. prepares more buses for Bangkokians´ return

BANGKOK, 31 October 2011 (NNT) – The Transport Company has prepared more buses as holiday makers are expected to return to Bangkok today.

Bangkokians spending days-off in other provinces are expected to head back to the capital today now that the special public holiday is over.

Transport Company Managing Director Wuttichart Kalayanamit said bookings of Bangkok-bound tickets were not as many as the number of people leaving Bangkok since many of the people who leave the capital were factory employees of the flooded industrial estates. People in this group mainly choose to stay at their hometown until their companies reopen.

The flooding has made many routes in 10 flood-torn provinces impassable. North-bound routes were also badly hit. The roads leading towards the south are still usable.

22 Bangkok districts likely to escape flooding

Twenty-two districts of Bangkok are very likely to escape flooding as the Royal Irrigation Department has managed to drain much of floodwaters, a deputy Bangkok governor said Monday.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Thirachon Manomaipibul said the opening of sluice gates of Klong Kao, Klong Sib, Klong Sib Ed Klong Sib Song and Klong Sib Sam canals and the speeding up draining of water at the Lower Klong Hok Wa had greatly improved the flooding situation in Bangkok.

He said the irrigation department managed to drain about 10 million cubic metres of water from Lower Klong Hok Wa canal into Bang Pakong, and thus improving the situation.

As a result there was 80 per cent chance that the 22 districts would escape flooding.

They are Bang Khunthien, Bang Bon, Thung Khru, Rat Burana, Jom Thong, Phasi Charoen, Vatana, Din Daeng, Sathorn, Ratthevi, Phayathai, Pathumwan, Pomprab Satrupai, Suang Luang, Pravet, Saphan Sung, Bang Kapi, Bueng Kum, Huay Kwang, Wang Thonglarn, Bang Sue and Bang Kok Noi districts.

FROC: More sluice gates need to be opened

BANGKOK, 31 October 2011 (NNT) – The Public Relations Unit of the Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) said that there is the necessity to open a lot more sluice gates such as Phraya Surane sluice gate in Khlong Sam Wa, resulting in a greater amount of water flowing into many districts of Bangkok. This will cause the flood water in communities situated along the canal to be 10-50 cm higher.

As for Prem Prachakon Canal, which already sees flood water behind its banks, it also has to bear the constant and rapid rise of water flows from Rangsit Canal. Therefore, the residents in the communities along the canal including Sai Mai, Khan Na Yao, Saphan Soong, Bueng Kum, Suan Luang, Bang Kapi, Don Mueang, Lak Si, Chatuchak and Bang Sue districts have to carefully watch out and be prepared for an announcement on relocation of belongings to higher grounds.
