I had extensions of stay for 8 years: Based on marriage, based on work, based on retirement which I currently have. I am divorced from Thai wife, legal father of son 6 years old with legal sole custody of child. This year I don't have the same amount of money combined for based on retirement extension. I will apply for extension based on raising a Thai child where I have to show less money. I tried this before in Chiangmai, but immigration has been very negative about this option and directed me to extension based on retirement but which is no longer okay. Immigration in Chiangmai doesn/t seem to be familiar with law governing extension of stay based on raising Thai child. What is the experience others may have? And why is it difficult to get things done at Immigration in Chiangmai when the law is very simple? What's the reluctance?

Please advise

All will want you to use retirement if you can qualify as it is a local decision. Other methods require approval in Bangkok and a lot more work for you and them.
