Hello!

Just a quick question: How much is the taxi from the Airport to Downtown Bangkok? There are two tolls to be paid too, the Highway and the... I forget the other one!

Thank you for your help.

PS If you have heard any news about flooding canceling flights, I would appreciate the latest information.

Thank you for your help!

the toll is 25 and 45 = 70 baht (if you take the normal route)

you also have to pay an airport fee/tax of 50 baht

then say about 250-350 on the meter depending on wher you go and the traffic

Thanks Melvin - that is good to know. I just heard from a friend who advised me to take the skytrain. I had forgotten that the skytrain goes to the airport now.

And in case anybody is interested, there is also a bus from the ground floor to downtown for 150 baht, I believe.

I always go upstairs to the Departure area where Taxis drop people off and grab on there, no 50baht fee

Does the skytrain to the airport run 24/7? If so, is the service very frequent in the early morning, about 5 AM?

Thank you! This really is a great forum!

The airport express bus was cancelled a few weeks ago.

The train operates from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Just last Thursday evening, I took a taxi from Suvarnabhumi to PraNakorn (Banglamphu).

The metered fare was 231 baht, plus the 50 baht airport fee. Excellent driver, so I added a decent tip.

Very very little traffic that night, and we didn't use the expressway.

Thats because unscrupulous taxi drivers are picking you up illegally, and screwing the honest drivers who wait in the que as per law/regulations.

Congratulations, if you decide to complain about graft/corruption in this country in the future, you can be reminded that you are indeed actively supporting and encouraging it :clap2:

Kilgore, you are 100% correct, despicable practice! However, just to be quite clear, you and your family wont have any fake label clothing, they wont use a torrent to download music, movies or software and of course they dont ever buy any PC games from Pantip or places like that! I thought not, just hope the air is OK on top of your pillar of virtue.

Not that I do but there is a difference there. You mention extremely large corporate enterprises that rake in millions of dollars profit yearly.

The scenario I was talking about directly affects an honest, poor cab driver, following the rules. Get it together B)

So, dependant upon the level or value of corruption, some is OK, some is not. That doesnt sound right.

Suggest you continue this conversation with other cab drivers (I have been one myself), if they pick up from departures they know they are wrong, even risk getting into a fight with the drivers who have waited in the queu.
