bangkok blue
If you are married to another foreigner or a woman from your own country of origin and choose to live in Thailand does this entitle you and your spouse to a Non Imm "O"? Would you have to be over 50 for this to apply? If you had a child that you chose to bring up in Thailand, that doesn't have a Thai mother would the parents be entitled to a Non Imm "O" as you have a dependent to take care of? If so would the child have to have been born in Thailand? Finally, would owning a property be enough to get a Non Imm "O"? I have seen many adverts saying it is possible for a foreign couple to own property here, dare say it's all done by setting up a company though. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Jingthing
Finally, would owning a property be enough to get a Non Imm "O"? Basically no. Some embassies/consulates might give you one (at least a single entry) for a special reason, such as preparing it for sale, some specific circumstances of need, but in general owning a Thai property certainly does not give you the right to live in Thailand long term on O visas. To buy a property because you think it might give the right to live in Thailand would be a huge error. Mario2008
A child that goes to school in thailand is a reason to be considered as dependent. However, that will only be 1 parent. To qualify the child must of course go to school and the parent must show 500,000 in a bankaccount in Thailand. The child does not have to be born in Thailand. Owning property is at some consulates enough reason to get a non-O visa. An extension of stay you will only get if the property is worth over 10,000,000 baht. Edit: with owning property I mean owning a condo (or another investment). A foreigner cannot own land, see post below.
lopburi3
Child born in Thailand has no rights to Thai citizenship. Land can not be owned by foreigner and company ownership is suspect at best if done for purpose of land control. Over 50 if on extension of stay for retirement spouse could receive non immigrant O visa and then matching extension of stay.
