I am getting married next week, and I had not planned on having any kind of stag due out here, but as luck has it I have a few

friends that are in town for a day on Monday so we are looking for ideas of where would make a good day / night out.

In the past I have never spent much time in Bangkok and the only drinking area I have been to is Nana,im pretty bored of that place so

any other areas that offer a good beer and social scene would be right up our street.

Any ideas ?

For my leaving do we started off in Carrefour food court. The beer was cheap but the food was pretty ropey, and early in the evening we went to an open air restaurant on the way up to Sukhumvit. I forget (as in could once have remembered but not now) where we went next; I'm guessing I ended up in Soi Cowboy and finally wound up at home some time before I woke up the next morning. In terms of a supermarket to start the session off, Carrefour food court would rate high on my list, close to the Vietnamese grocers' in Shihlin Lu, but that is presumably not so convenient for you.

For my stag do many years ago, we started off in the works canteen bar; I went home for a nap before meeting up with the lads in town, and then in the morning got the train back to my home town, went round our old haunts, starting in the Guildford Arms, which has a top ceiling. There was just two of us left by the time we got to the Western for the go go dancers. D's girlfriend was not in a good mood when we got to his flat, as he'd been positing when he got home an hour or so before us, but she put a brave face on it and we crashed out on the carpet. I don't think any of us really felt that grand the next day, until after the second in Bannermans at lunchtime. I imagine I slept well on the train home.

So anyway, back to your celebration. I'd recommend start off in Carrefour food court, then get a train up country somewhere. I doubt you'll get McEwans Export, but it might still feel like a train journey drinking Singha. After that you're on your own. You might want to wear fancy dress; I'm sure others will have helpful suggestions on that score. One of the contractor's lads caused quite a stir wearing a red or pink dress, a few years back, but I am not familiar with the details of the story, and hope to remain that way

SC

EDIT: typos corrected.

The first time I went drinking with D, when we were both callow youths, he couldn't remember which side of the road to stand on to get the bus home, and had to run all the way to the bus station to catch the last bus.

He tells me you owe him 15p for the bus fare.

Where is Soi Cowboy ? I have heard of it,but have never been.

I remember when folks used to recommend Queens Castle 2 in Patpong...whatever happened to dr_pat_pong? He was a laugh he was....

It was a great show but after the fifteenth time of having the live sex show interrupted by the surprise visit of the BiB I stopped going.......I reckon the place was being watched. wink.gif

Anyway Soi Cowboy is the place to go.....Sukhumvit 23....if the taxi driver doesn't know the way then best to wait until you arrive in Bangkok before hailing one.....

5 minute taxi ride from Nana on soi 23. It's the same thing so if you're bored at Nana you probably will be bored there too

Fannies is a must for the young shy lad.....there is always one in any stag party.

The seafood plaza? What's wrong with Subway's 99 Baht special?? Stop wasting your money SC.....

Patpong is the place now anyhow....just don't tell anyone will ya or we'll have stag do's up and down the street every night spoiling the ambiance and all have to move back to Nana again.....

If you went to subway, you'd end up sitting drinking beer outside in Starbucks, or going across the road to the Magic Table- which I personally think is a bit seedy and sordid.

I've never been to the Eden Club just along from there and anyone that says different is a fokenlyre.

We like to play "chicken" across the road to the open air bar on Soi 5. Its not smoking that's bad for your health in my company....

Soi 7/1 is a waste of time on a Monday...no live music and crucially no free buffet for the teachers......the place will be full of tourists!!

Imagine the prices......nah Patpong on a Monday will be great...Madrid for a pizza then hit the ladyboy bars.....those guys will love it....and the fiancee has little to worry about.

I've never met a Mexican I fancied.

There might be better than Carrefour, but you'd struggle to find cheaper.

You'll need the space of the Carrefour food court if the world is coming too. I thought it was just your goodself and few chaps of auld acquaintance.

Soi Cowboy is a bit like rack and ruin; its easy enough to get there, even if you don't know where it is. All roads lead to Rome, but the taxis'll take you to soi cowboy.

(Actually they'll take you to some dodgy place over in Silom, I think, somewhere near perdition, if I'm not wrong, though I don't know exactly where it is...)

I'd not be encouraging him to tempt fate (sorry, Fate should have a capital, shouldn't she) If he ends up with Fate or one of her mates from the ladyboy bars, his fiancee might be more distressed than destressed.

There's a Mexican on my ground floor, but you can only come in from one direction, due to us living on the Sultan's back entrance, but its not convenient if you're planning on getting to Patpong the same evening, and I am sure you have all heard enough about my traffic woes.

I've never really been out and about in Patpong; I don't feel happy straying beyond Ploenchit...

SC

EDIT: If you can keep a cork in it and delay the weeding a week, you could make the Bangkok Sevens...

http://www.asian5nations.com/asian-7-series

If its not been switched to a water polo competition...

I'll not be joining you all for the Sevens, though I might come along for this Monday since I have a day off work...

As stated above you should start at the Beer Garden on Soi 7 Sukhumvit. Don't worry too much about the rest of the day...it will "take care". wink.gif

Also don't go to Patpong until after sunset...you'll want to be watching that from a rooftop bar somewhere...just don't let anyone out on the balcony....Patpong at night is great...at least one of you will get lost....that's usually when the fun begins....

I was going to suggest this thread for some useful suggestions, but we were even less helpful on that occasion than in this thread

Good luck on Monday - the start of the weekend...

So how did it go? How long did it take your friends to raise the bail money? Was the beer at Carrefour foodcourt still 140 bht per jug?

I worry for them. Wasn't Carrefour flooded out? Maybe they had to swim up there and are stranded inside still with crate after crate of Singha....ah well at least it'll be something to tell the kids....

Oh my word... maybe we should go and rescue them... while there's still some Singha left.

My colleague had a lock-in at the photocopying shop opposite, one night...

This needs careful planning SC...while their safety is paramount I feel after so many hours of Singha consumption we should only be prepared to swim downriver....

Well I still feel rough now,we tried to find the beer bar in soi 7 and FAILED,we opted for Gullivers Irish restraurant

for a starting place,I was not brave enough to raise the subject of Carrefour,if I was in the UK I would not

suggest going to Tescos for a beer breakfast...

While moving around trying to find the Beer bar in the day time we kept getting hassled by these lovely gentlemen who kept informing us that they had girls available as young

as 11

So we ended up in Nana from there,Nana is not a pretty place in the day time, everybody started off in a very moral

mood declaring what they would not be getting upto,by the end of the night....

A pair managed to share they first ladyboy experience, both trying to convince everyone else that they did not

know, and that nothing serious happend, just making the most of a L' B'S skills.

We managed an hour in Patpong which was not great to be fair,we ended up with random girls numbers in a pockets

which we managed to dump before we got home..

The tempation was there at times but im glad to say that I woke up the following morning with a very dry mouth and

no guilt to speak of,we kept going until around 6am,sat outside the Nana plaza area were some pirated looking

women in her 50's was selling beer from a ice bucket.

That's twice now SC....I feel we should make an appearance next time or our reputation will be shot.....these guys couldn't find Sukhumvit Soi 7....maybe its been moved by Yingluck to avoid the floods...!

I was going to swim over to Carrefour to join them, but it wasn't flooded...

I suppose I should do some research, to see if there are any better alternatives to the Carrefour food court; everyone seems to write it off without trying it...
