Current Sunday Roast Dinner Options In Cm

The Pubs sunday roast is great but i do wish that they would give a few more roast potatties :(:D

I have in the past asked for a few extra Roasties and they have always obliged.

To be fair to the staff i have asked in the past and they have duly obliged but :

A. i found it slightly embarrassing ( as that is the type of guy i am )

B. they gave me another full portion and i ended up stuffed

Perhaps i'm just never satisfied :(

To put on a good quality carvery you'd need to charge 500-600 baht and I don't think enough expats in Chiang Mai would be prepared to pay that.

For a decent Sunday Carvery I fear one needs to go to BKK :( The Irish Pub on Convent Rd (Off Silom) was 499Bt IIRC with so much stuff you'd have difficulty walking afterwards, and they get quite busy. Maybe they cornered the market as several other "Pubs" around Silom have no Sunday lunch offering at all. (N.B. Haven't been for a few months so the above may not be current).

Also anyone who knows about the history of the Queen Vic, will understand that the price charged did not necessarily reflect commercial reality.

Well I've tried all the options in Chiang Mai and think that Archers is by far the best. They only have beef as an option but its bloody taisty, the portions are massive and its the most affordable. Second best is The Pub and the Olde Bell is just awful. The directions to Archers provided in a previous reply will help you find it and I'd certainly recommend going.

Oh yeah free Horseradish, english mustard and you get loadsa extras like cauliflower cheese, mashed swede etc.

I know holiday inn used to, but seem to recall they stopped?

Holiday Inn still does carvery and last weeks offering was beef and lamb and pork that was done with sweet sauce but nice bit of crackling. Also yorkshire puds and roast spuds which once more would be likely break the plate if dropped from 2" up.

Enjoyed it and place was close to full by midday.

i must admit the sunday dinners are not what they used to be real shame the queen vic stooped was the only game in town really

i never liked the place only went on a sunday but wow was good value maybe they still have the equipment maybe its worth someone looking

it to buying it from them if there not using it a start a sunday carvery

The Pub do a great dinner on a Sunday, beef, Pork or Lamb.

I'll second that but not sure if Graeham does bread sauce though.

For sure mint sauce with the lamb, apple sauce with the pork and horseradish with the beef.

Great roast potatoes, nice veggies, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy.

If you do go - go hungry.

My vote goes to The Pub too! Wash down with lots of ice cold draught Tiger. :D

My mouth is now watering to try the roast beef and the roast lamp and the yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes, probably 15 years since I had any of the above.

Only one problem. Where is the Pub? Please advise.

Not telling :D If you come out from the moat towards the Zoo you will go past Kad Suan Gow Central on your left, keep following the road until you come to a major cross roads. Go straight across and after around 20-30 yards the entrance to the car park is on your left.

what we need to a replacement for the queen vic carvery there's a big expat community here someone needs to take on the mantle

To do a carvery properly and hygenically you need quite a lot of specialist equipment that takes up a lot of space and is of course expensive. Back home most guys who had a pub Sunday Carvery would have a few pints with it as well, but in here many customers are content to have a bottle of water or a coke with it, so the food has to be commercially priced. Our Super Sampler consists of Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Beef together with 4 Yorkshire puddings, Roast Potatoes, Onion mash, Veg and Gravy, It generally fills up even the hungriest mouths! If anyone tries it this Sunday and isn't full, I'll provide extra Beef, Pork and Chicken free!! Just ask!

Wow! That sounds like a great offer! I'm hungry! How much is the Super Sampler?

I too Dave2 had a roast nearly every Sunday and there is nothing wrong with that.I go to Archers for my roast beef dinner.Go past UK Irish,on the right,and at the traffic lights turn left towards Walking Street and it is 50 metres on your right.Only roast beef, but loads of it and it is tender.Free horseradish too.Certainly worth a try.

How much is their roast beef dinner?

My family and I had a roast at The Olde Bell this past Sunday, it was what you would expect from any place offering a roast on request, pretty bland, but on par with The Pub. I am not putting either place down though, as to provide a roast on request for over a 12 hour period is no short order in its self. I would like to see a fresh carvery again though akin to The Queen Vic before Ian done a runner.
