Did You See Or Get Any Free Handout From Govt

Almost everytime I switch on the local news I see free food parcels being handed out to the people which is good but I never saw any here in Nakhon Sawan and I never heard of anyone who got one, how about you? I just wonder how widespread this relief effort was or was it just a publicity stunt ( tv were always there) to show the Govt were doing something.

Yes, from day two in lumlukka. Rice, cooked meals, water. So, looks like your suspicion is unfounded.

I am happy for you, never saw a thing in Nakhon Sawan, perhaps I was nevr in the right place at the right time, but never heard of anything here. Did get a couple of days of free hospital checks and medicines though.

Many people in Ban Khae can confirm the government’s window dressing - like the sister of my Thai partner.

The people in her soi and in the nearby sois miss such a support like you can see on TV. The neighbours take care for each other in their 2-weeks flood disaster, share the food, borrow the boot to the neighbour … .

No public support at all.

A “lovely” thank-you for saving the centre of Bangkok by diverting the flood to the West. This is what the folks are feeling there.

Here in 2 weeks, one boat of the Democrats brought help.

Army moved some people and came into our soi every few days and asked if someone needs help.

And the army has a truck going into dry area and back once or twice a day.

That's all.

The reason why you never see any food parcels is because the people in your neighborhood aren't photogenic enough.:jap:

I am a "superstar" like you see on TV all the time my g/f tells me all the time! I tell her the same also, perhaps our fees are to expensive for Thai TV!:D

Yes, quite a bit at our mooban at Klong 10 on Hwy 305, Thanyaburi, Pathum Thani. Rice, water, EM balls, some black liquid for stinking water, a few portable toilets, four small orange boats, one large flatbottomed tin boat with motor, and crewed. The tesaban is doing an excellent job!!

We had a few times packages here. But more from private parties as from the government. My wife even held a donation and got food for the whole muh bahn here. Most help came not from the government but from private parties and from the mayor of the village. WE pay 300 bt a month for the village and during and before the flooding collections were held for extra funds.

At our village, Thai army -navy actually- are coming twice a week for the last four weeks that we are flooded.

Every Saturday, they are staying a bit longer around the swimming pool at the club house -which is ironically the driest place of the residence- because there is a doctor available for an eventual consultation.

As well, we always politely declined rice, water and other supplies -we are fully stocked and plenty of people are much more in need than us- but we let them know that were lacking of cats and dogs food...

And they didn't forget about this... Last Saturday, they brought us a 8 kilos Pedigree bag and a rack of 12 cans of Meo. cool.gif

I think the THai armed forces seem to have done pretty well, we had the army in Nakhon Sawan ferrying people in to town beca.use the baht buses could not, so I take my hat off to the forces for that well done. But as afr as the Govt inspired help the floods vixtims seems to be a bit hit and miss to me.

I am amazed that so many TVF members act as if military aid is not government aid. They are funded by government, tasked with rendering aid, and purposely equipped with the means to do so. They are the government. If you see soldiers helping people you are seeing the government at work. Do they think the military is an NGO or private sector organization?

Talking of photogenic but I've noticed ( not necessarily during the recent crisis) that judging by their appearance the major TV channels seem to drag their on the spot reporters from a pool of noodle vendors or songtaew drivers. Scruffy bunch of buggers. :D

You are correct the armed services are an arm/tool of the Government but I think that most of the "people" dont see that. I think they see the armed forces as taking care of them ( the people) wheras the Governnent are not seen in such a favourable light. They promised us the earth and gave us nothing. Something the armed forces did not do, they turned up and helped when we needed them and kept the country safe from attack if you see my point of view.

Yes, we get it, don't worry ....

Some people see the army as independent from the government, an heresy for a western democratic mind, but TiT as they say ...

And there is still a hope in some quarters for a military coup, hence the propaganda against the government and for the army.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
