Ikea Kitchens

Has anyone used the IKEA kitchen design service yet? If so, I would very much like your opinions on the service provided. Also, (again directed at people who have been to IKEA) do they sell kitchen appliances? I'm thinking of dishwashers, ovens microwaves etc. etc. There is no mention of these in either the main brochure, or the kitchen supplement, and nothing even on the website about appliances. I don't fancy the idea of buying the housing-unit and then having to hunt about to find the correct size oven. Many thanks.

Hi!

I'm about to renovate my kitchen and will go for Ikea as, so far, it offers one of the best price/quality ratio you can find in Thailand (many built-in contractor will be cheaper but after living a few years here, I'm now quite reluctant on using such services as it can quickly become a nightmarish circle of repairs breaking more stuff than they fix).

The kitchen design crew seem to come from abroad. They wear a different outfit than the thai staff and have "Opening Crew" written on their shirt. They sound Singaporean and Malay. Their english is good and the service is pretty efficient (I came with a pretty good idea of what I wanted). The kitchen planner thai version is clearly not absolutely ready(some labels and references are missing).

I guess that's why it's not available online yet. But it's enough to do the layout then Ikea staff will help listing all the elements.

They do sell kitchen appliance but the choice is still pretty limited. They told me it will gradually improve. I didn't see dishwashers But those are pretty sandardized nowadays and it should be easy to find the right size even somewhere else.

Having installed flat pack kitchen stuff before its all based on a standard 600mm unit . European appliances like Siemens, Zanusi et al are all based on this. So they have 300mm drawers, 150mm towel racks and filler units.

Kitchens is one of the things IKEA does well.

Many thanks for these replies. The video shows an entire wall of ovens, so it might be fairly safe to assume IKEA Bangkok do sell appliances, and I am hoping there will also be microwaves, fridges etc. there too. I perhaps should have used the somewhat key word in my original post and that would be 'integrated' For example:

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20152511/

This for example is a dishwasher which should be fitted with a finish the same as the rest of your kitchen, ie. wood type, high gloss etc. Anyway, I am hoping travel from Korat will be possible fairly soon, so I can see first hand. In the meantime, thanks again, and any further experiences would still be appreciated.

IKEA does not sell white goods/major appliances. What you saw on promo materials are for display only -- to give customers idea how their finished kitchens might look like. But you should not worry about whether appliances would fit in IKEA kitchen as dimensions of most major appliances are pretty much standardised.

The arrival of IKEA must be causing panic among the like of Index and SB. The IKEA range is so huge, quality reasonable and pricing aggressive. IKEA Hong Kong used to be one of the attractions for tourists from Thailand and other countries. Competition is always good for consumers.

One thing I learned living in Thailand is that there is price control here andbig boys are not worried about competition since they will not allow that. Theyuse any way possible legal or illegal to make it hard to compete. So let’s seeif Ikea can succeed
