I have a friend who is getting ready to try to get a tourist visa (as long as possible) for the US. We both have heard it is very tough to get. If they are denied the first time are they able to vacation in another country and apply for a tourist visa at the US embassy while visiting that country to travel to US. Just wondering if a change of embassy's, people working there and being from another country would have any benifit. Just so I am clear I will give a example: Friend goes to japan and decides they want to go to on an extended vacation instead of returning home. so they fill out necessary paperwork to travel to next country they would like to visit (US) and apply at US embassy in the country they are currently in. Info on the person who will be traveling: 36 year old female, holds a higher position in a company she has been with 15 years, helps with family business (farm), very traditional and still lives with mother (father passed a few years ago). Not rich but middle class. they will not be metioning they knows anyone here and will mention tourist areas to visit when here (las vegas, disneyland and tourist area's like that). So I guess I am just looking at other options for them to assist in their travels.

Don't believe that'll work as I think the State Department has a record of applications, both passers and failers.

In other circumstances, such as not having been previously rejected, it'd usually be OK.\

Unless her situation has changed regarding ties to Thailand, suggest she save her $$$. Am a bit surprised, tho from the little info you provide that she was rejected in the first place. She have relatives in the U.S.?

Not rejected yet, but getting ready to apply and from all I have read expecting the worst. So we are just exploring other options. And what I have advised her is to only provide them with the info they ask for (after all to much info or above and beyond what they ask for can only raise questions or other problems) No family in US but I also told her to mention her mother "might" be traveling with her if she can get time off as well for travel. I told her not to mention people here she knows (so no ties to US other than tourist reasons).

Hello

I am sorry to say so but this aproach is everything but, well thought

I have never applied for a visa in the Us but this is what I think I know:

1) Make sure you provide all informations required, and not required, as long as they are truthful

2) You really think that the fact that your friend "might" take her mother along "if...whatever......whatever".... would help?

3) I was under the impression, correct me if I am wrong, that Nationals were to request a visa from their country of residence which, in her case is Thailand. She would not be allowed to do so in Japan, or any other country for that matter. Also, this is a computer age where all records are on file

4) With her profile, I do not see why her application would be rejected

What I have read on this site before is : come up with the truth, do not try to be deceiptful.....it eventually shows after enquiry or during the interview

You are right to be worried, you are wrong to try to find a way around as there are none

Am sure that one of the questions asked is "Have you applied for and been denied a Visa at any other time?"

I know a question like this appears on the UK Application form.

Also when you apply it asks for your status in the country of application, if you are a tourist it will not be accepted.

Also as the poster above has stated, all the computers for Visa applications are linked.

“36 year old female, holds a higher position in a company she has been with 15 years, helps with family business (farm), very traditional and still lives with mother (father passed a few years ago). Not rich but middle class.”

This sounds like pretty strong ties to Thailand. Have her provide her work history, and anything from the family farm that may have her name on it.

I would leave the mom out of it.

The application process will ask about a sponsor, with whom, and where she will be staying. If she is coming to see you and do some traveling, I would tell them that. If you don’t, there is a chance something could slip out later in the process or during the interview, and then she is screwed, probably forever.

The most important thing is to be completely honest.

It can be done. My GF got her US visa last month.

Good luck.

My train of thought is leave me or anyone out here out of it, then it shows a tie here and potiential to stay beyond what she is allowed. I do have another thai friend in the states and she is here on and educational visa and also has tourist visa. Her family got their visas no problem (mother and brother). So I guess it all comes down to my lack of knowledge and seeing many variables. Just seeking guideance and info to do it the best way possible. And thanks to all who have offered info so far.
