Probanly the best site i have visited in all of Thailand.Prasat Ta Muen located on the Thai- Cambodian border Surin, Thailand. Built in the 10 century. It is one of the hardest places to reach in Thailand. Don't make an attempt without checking with the tourist Authority Frst to make sure there are no disputes in the happening or in the making

Hi there Maytin: Thanks for sharing your Issan motorcycling holiday with us.

Some of those images brought a tear to my eye. This to me is the REAL Thailand. Not a bar in sight. Just real people.

Thankyou

Peter

Amen to that, I love Isaan and her people. I am priveliged to be accepted in their community.

Nice pics here guys, more anytime, Love tha Iron Buffalo, saw many of those bad boy on the roads on a visit to Isan(Ubon)(Yasothorn). Yep that old Iron Buffalo pollute the air somewhat, but don't leave a mess on the road way and the foot paths. cool.gifbiggrin.gifsmile.gif Thanks for all the pics> Enjoyable!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

When I visited Sukhothai a few years ago there lots of those Iron Buffalos with a few modifications and some seats in the back. They took you from the city a few kilometers over to the Sukhothai park. Odd contraptions but functional. Definitely not a soft Buick mushy ride!

Some old ruins ( Khmer? ) just outside of town, on the east side on Chok chai.

Is Chok chai considered Issan?

Anyway, I noticed the site on google earth and the daughter and I went hunting for it.

Surrounded by rice farms on all sides.

It looks much like an excavated site south of town dated to the 11th century.

Undeveloped, no signs leading to it, but locals are aware of it.

It made for an interesting outing!

If anyone knows of other sites off the tourist track, I'd be interested.

We respect these historical sites and take nothing but photos.

Hi all, thanks for a lot of interesting photos..

May I please ask where this is? It looks awesome!

Cheers.

Hrmm I wasn't sufficiently eptitudinal to successfully quote the pic.

It's the giant gold Buddha with the green Hills in the background and the hundreds of smaller gold statues in the foreground.

There are a couple of places like this to the south of Pak Thong Chai
