You do not get a Tourist Visa at the airport! You would get a visa exempt entry of 30 days. Apply for a Tourist Visa at an Honorary Consulate at Hull, Cardiff, etc.

As beechguy said, you get a tourist visa from a Thai consulate. You can apply by mail. This visa will be valid for travel to Thailand within 90 days from its date of issue. When you arrive with it in Thailand, you will receive permission to stay for 60 days. Optionally, you can apply for a 30 day extension of stay at any immigration office in Thailand.
