Restaurant By Cmu / Zoo?

I recall reading about a really nice Thai restaurant set either in gardens or by the jungle out by CMU or the zoo. If I recall correctly, it's largish, has multiple open air platforms and excellent food and service. Does anyone know what I'm alluding to here?

While I'm at it, a few years back I ate at the Good View and enjoyed it immensely. Great food, great setting, and they had a very good kind of folk/jazz band playing not very loudly. A friend read a recent write-up on the Good View that described it as a great place for Karaoke!!! bah.gif Any truth to this ugly rumour? Have they changed formats out there???

Thanks in advance...

Yeah, that could be the spot.

I found a posting on this forum that gave an account of a less-than-stellar evening spent there. I wonder if it's worth the premium.

Searching a little more thoroughly, it may in fact have been Palaad Tawanron that I had in mind. Right behind the zoo. I think I'll give that one a try.

Still be interested to hear of any recent experiences at Good View.

Cheers...

It is Palaad Tawanron. Be sure to book as it gets very busy.

You are all wrong!

The restaurant is near the zoo, the entrance is in the car park to Huay Keow waterfalls

On the left after the flower seller stalls and before the fast food sellers is an unmarked driveway.

Down the driveway, to the right, down the stairs, through a very dark corridor.

Entrance

18°48'45.03"N 98°56'45.12"E

Main Building

18°48'42.66"N 98°56'44.43"E

There it is.

Most of the outside tables by the falls are likely to be closed as it is only fully open in December and January.

Food and setting is much better than the second rate GaLair (at the top of Suthep Road)

Inasmuch as the OP stated that the restaurant was out by the zoo and near CMU, how can our suggestions be incorrect, when our suggestions conform to this description? :o

By the way, does your suggestion have a name...... :whistling:

The un-named one I suggested is by the zoo and really nice, with tables set at many levels. The main building is massive and entirely teak.

Galair has a pretty setting by a lake, but if you have eaten there, you wouldn't describe it as nice. Second rate with extremely poor service is a more fitting description.

Palaat Tawanron, is nice but would be described as behind the zoo as it is in the road to the zoos rear entrance.

Nice is subjective, personally I have always had good service and good food at the Galare...... or maybe my standards are lower than yours!

Galare is great setting, food & prices reasonable, service lousy.

The restaurant near Huay Keow falls, excellent building & location, food & service excellent.

Palaad Tawanron - went there shortly after they opened, left with an empty stomach never ever to return.

If we're handing out prizes, I think ludditeman gets the cup. The nameless one by the falls sounds like the spot I was trying to recall.

MESmith's mini-reviews sound reliable and consistent with other reports.

Looks like I'll be heading into the parking lot, past the flower sellers, down the driveway, down the stairs on the right, through the dark corridor.... in December.

Hi, no need to wait until December. Had a fantastic evening there a few days ago. Food exeplary and the service very good. Go for it!!!

Huan Huay Keow เฮือนหวยแก้ว

Is the name of the place, they now have 3 levels open.

Went there for coffee this morning.

Now the rice harvest is finished I have driven to CM for a couple of weeks holiday.

will give it a try. Galare and Tawanron seem to trade off their location and ambience against poor service, mediocre food and not cheap to add final insult.

Hope Huan Huay Keow is in a different league.

Its ignorant comments like this that put people off perfecttly good venues. I cant comment on Galare, but have had many good lunches and evenings at Tawanron. They do specialise in seafood, maybe not to your liking?

It's ignorant comments like this that put people off putting forward perfectly reasonable but obviously different opinions on a restaurant and what it offers. You liked Tawanron, I like the setting but was hugely underwhelmed by the food and service on each of the occasions I have been there. Perhaps the new place will shake the complacency out of their hillside rivals.
