I have to go to Jakarta on Jan 20th to attend a friends' wedding.

I've been quoted 16,000bt which is a lot for me.

Has anyone noticed any special offers for return flights from Bkk to Jakarta?

Can anyone please suggest good travel agents with decent prices?

Cheers!!!

You could go with Air Asia for about 10k (from memory) but you'd need to fly via KL. Suspect the same would apply to Tiger Air.

I've also seen a deal with Lufthansa for around 9k but flights are infrequent.

Why not just check back pages of BKK Post . they regularly have cheapest offers in there.

-->a cheaper option may be get a cheap flight to singapore then get a ferry to batam and get a domestic flight batam to jakarta: IGNORE this, that dates from the last century, now there are several Indones. cheap carriers, like LIOnair, that fly this route. In fact doing this, via Batam, will now cost MORE as fly direct from/via SIN, contact any local SIN agent for current low priced returns, then add AirAsia/JetstarAsia or TIgerair, if so wanted.

--->>LH indeed DOES fly 1/day, with a new AB340 : IF youre a member of their M&M FF progr, they NOW do cheap returns at 5.000 THB, PLUS txes (16.66= total 6.666), you can enrol at the mo also on their website: lufthansa.com, go to COUNTRYsites (a bit hidden in the Ri-hand top corner) then find Thailand. LOCAL agents should be able to book this for around 8.000. Just saw this 5 mins ago on www.khaosarntravel.com and www.saveflights.com

Note this is current till 15/12 now only. NOTE; LATE Jan is Chinese nwYr, so NO cheap fares in/out of SIN can be had 'round that time. Thats how airlines work.

Lufthansa will certainly have another good online-deal early in the new year, as their flights within Asia (departing BKK) suffer from low occupancy (cause they dont pay commissions to the agents anymore, but thats another story).

the cheapest regular fare is always KUWAIT AIRWAYS, though they only fly 2 or 3 times a week (Not sure if 2 or 3 times, i think 2 times only).

the fare is about 6.300 plus Taxes, should be around 8.000 Baht including all surcharges.

I dont recommend to go to SG and then continue at Batam, thats a hassle you may want to avoid. Same goes for the airasia Bkk - KUL - Jakarta route (though I did this before, but I booked 6 months in advance and the BKK-KUL-Jakarta and return DPS-KUL-BKK costed me roughly 120 Euro incl. everything). as the THAI air asia is often late, u need at least 4 hours transit time in KUL to maqke sure to catch ur connecting flight. and most probably, its even more expensive than Kuwait Air, as u have to pay extra airport tax in KUL twice, and the flights BKK - KUL on airasia are very expensive nowadays (no competition of other cheapo-airlines), most of the times much more expensive than the big carriers which fly BKK - KUL (Gulf and LH are a good deal on BKK-KUL)

asanee, the 5000 Baht offer is available for EVERYONE, not only for miles&more-members (though their website says something different). and they use B-747 for BKK-Jakarta, not AB 340 (at least they did so when I was on board of their maiden flight BKK-Jakarta in July 2005)
