Red Stamp

Featured Replies

Hi, i was just looking through my passport and i noticed that when i visited Laos i was given a Red Stamp above the Double Entry Tourist Visa. (its the first tourist visa i've ever had for thailand)

is this normal ?

from what i can gather the red stamp means i wont be issued another tourist visa. is this correct ?

is there anyway around this i.e. visiting cambodia instead of Laos or is the Red stamp Thai Embassy based rather than Laos based.

You did not have any other entry stamps for Thailand in your passport or just not tourist visas?

It is likely they will not issue another tourist visa if they have put such a stamp in your passport but other Consulates probably will as it is normally only for the Consulate making the stamp reference. Especially if no other entries.

other than the double entry tourist visa from last time with the red stamp he had an expired multi O visa for thailand

This is odd. One thing Thailand needs not to be doing now is discouraging tourist visits.

The consulate in Vientiane is a little bit zealous! earlier this year i was working in LuangPhrabang and had all the relevant legal Lao paperwork to prove it, i was coming back to thailand for a visit and applied for a double entry visa ( i had another contract in Thailand looming so i just needed some time betweeen jobs so it seemed the easist thing to do ) however as i had applied for one other torist visa 8 months earlier they deemed this as excessive and also stamped me with the red stamp There were 3 other non b visas realating to work permits in the current passport and i have never had a tourist visa in 11 years of working here but it certainly made no difference

That might cause the consulate to question why not another non immigrant O visa rather than a 2 entry tourist visa if he has valid reasons for non immigrant entry.

I Obtained the Non Immigrant O visa in the UK where they asked me to get my dad to fax over documents showing he could support me for the one year duration of my stay. i assume that obtaining a Non-immigrant O from within asia would be significantly more difficult and time consuming than this.

also just want to check with the general opinion ... someone said i should be fine going to a different consulate .. so if i make my way to Cambodia / Phnom Penh i should be able to obtain a visa ?

I was posting to the OP as your post was not on thread (posted 2 minutes before mine) I was reading.

That option is no longer available anywhere and such visa issue from a handful of Consulates may cause red flag to some officials. This is not official policy AFAIK but just my guess.

You are not the only one many people in the group I went with got that stamp even one guy who only had one tourist visa in his PP. I guess we will find out from the first group of people who got those stamps back in August.

Saavankhet and KL seem to be the most reasonable and user friendly consulates now. Getting my "O" visa there a few months ago....was painless.
