I'd like to stay 9 months in Thailand :D

I have a triple entry visa.

The guy at the consulate in Milan told me I cannot use it for a 9 month stay in Thailand as I planned :including the extensions "2+1,2+1,2+1"(total 9 months).

Instead he told me I have to do it this way :

-2 months> visa run>back to Thailand.

-2 months> extension 1 month> visa run>back to Thailand.

-2 months> extension 1 month> visa run>back to Thailand.

-1 month (regular 30 days permission to stay for Italian people), go back to Italy.(total 9 months)

When I asked why I cannot apply for an extension after the first 2 months, he told me because , this way my triple entry will be expired before I can use the third entry :D

Hmmm is this your experience with a triple entry?

I found it really weird, I'd really like to avoid that trip to a border after 8 months, just to stay another month

Last time I used a double entry and asked for an extension after the first 2 months and everything went OK (total 6 months)

really confused, need to drink another Chang to clear my mind :o

Your help really appreciated!

Ciao

Just humour him.

You will get an extension on the first entry. :o

It is not uncommon for the Consuls to be hazy about the actual rules in Thailand.

You have to make the final entry into Thailand within the 6 month validity period as shown on the visa. ( from the date of issue of that visa )Work on that and all is well. Good luck and enjoy the Chang :o

Oh I got it now.

I wish the guy had your ability to explain things, it was simple after all eh?

Thanks a lot ,you just made my staying a little bit easier :D

Agree with all above...............just point out in one sense Consul was correct as the 6 month validity runs from when they issue the visa so if your flight was not for 2 weeks after it had been issued you effectively only have 5 months and 2 weeks to use all 3 entries therefore if you did 2 lots of 60+30 days you you would be beyond this 5 months and 2 weeks period and unable to use the 3rd entry.

We always say you can get 9 months out of a triple entry visa but you always end up losing a week or so at the end of the day.

:D

indeed the guy was right, but he didn't think of the alternative:

I arrived in Thailand 4 days after they issued the visa.

So in the end I'll do 1 "regular" lot off 60 +30, the second lot 60+26 (the extension minus the 4 days)just to be within the six months of validity, and the last lot of 60+30

.

This way I can save 1 trip to the border

correct? :D:D

But technically he was right, you cannot stay 9 months with a triple visa, anyway if we want to be really pedantic we can say you cannot stay 9 months even if they issue a triple visa at the airport on the day you arrive, 'cause some months have 31 days..but wait ..you have to consider february and what if it's a leap year? ....geezzz
