I have to apply for extension of my retirement visa soon in Jomtien. I was wondering if Jomtien Immigration reqires a bank letter in the case of visa extension based on pension? Anyone applied recently in Jomtien, was bank letter required?

I renewed my retirement extension at the end of October. No bank letter needed, but remember that confirmation of your pension from consulate/embassy is required.

Your bank cannot confirm your pension. It depends on what basis you are using to show your financial status...... income or money in the bank. In the case of the OP, he wrote "based on pension".

I believe fredlk was in agreement - either an Embassy income letter or a bank letter of account balance - not that bank could confirm pension - but that a letter of an account balance is not required for those using just income method.

The letter from the bank is to verify that the amount transferred from a foreign country into Thailand is 800,000 Baht or more in the previous year.

The bank letter confirms the amount on that date in that account. It has nothing to do with transfer of funds in any time period and that is not a requirement in any case.

Isn't that what I said!!!

And that is why I said he was in agreement with you.

Sorry Lopburi, maybe I was being somewhat pedantic. I read fredlk's first comment (Post #3)and I thought that he was referring to an "EITHER/OR" choice relating to the income option! He didn't make that clear.

Thank you and, once again, I apologise.

There is also the COMBO method, which is neither either/or; it is BOTH. For the combo method you need an embassy letter AND a bank letter (used in cases where the income is less than 65K per month).

Correct, currently at Jomtien no bank letter needed if using solely using the income (embassy letter) method.

JT,

You previously mentioned that you were required to submit two original sets of documents for the extension of your retirement visa. I was wondering if others on the board were also made to submit two original sets of documents at the Jomtien office.

Hello again,

As I have said, I renewed my retirement extension (based on income/pension only) at the end of October. This was done at Chonburi Immigration in Jomtien and it wasn't necessary to produce a letter from my Thai bank.

Jingthing was correct in writing that it is EITHER letter from embassy OR letter from bank and he clarified this in his subsequent post. Also, in his post #11, he made it very clear that using income/pension criteria only, a bank letter isn't required. The Combo method was clarified by him in the same post.

That isn't exactly correct. The requirement was two original application forms, two photos, and two copies of the passport ID page. One copy of all other required pages. Since this happened to me, I have read reports of some people saying they are also being asked for the additional items and some who aren't! Figure that one out.
