Diy And Builders Merchants Etc

ConnectionNotGuaranteed

Hi all,

Me and the Mrs are coming to Pattaya for about 4 days in a couple of weeks for a short break. We are currently in the process of building an house in the Village and there is a distinct lack of choice up there, as well as what is available is a bit pricey. We therefore want to combine the break with an extensive shopping tour for materials for the house, however we don't know the Pattaya area too well and don't have the time to search around.

Can anyone give us some advice on the best shops to go to and where they are? The main things we want to find are:-

Tiles for the whole house (wall and floor)

Granite/Marble for kitchen work tops

Electrics (cable, sockets, switches, consumer unit etc)

Suspended Ceiling

General Plumbing and bathroom suites

Doors (internal and external)

Windows

The plan is to do the search on this trip and order if necessary, then hire a truck next month and drive down again to pick everything up in one go.

Any help, advise or experiences that you have had would be most gratefully accepted. :jap:

Bonthavorn should be your first stop...huge home building store/showroom on beach side of Sukhumvit between North Pattaya and Central Roads; continuing down Sukhumvit towards Jomtien, on the left, just before the turn to South Pattaya Road are two smaller home-building shops (Cement Thai and a Cotto Tiles showroom). If you continue down Sukhumvit another 2-3 kilos, on the opposite side of the Sukhumvit, is another huge home DIY store (Bavorn or Kanthorn or something). Now, of course, as you have made a u-turn and are heading back towards Pattaya, there is the Homeworks store next to the Big C shopping center at Sukhumvit and South Pattaya Road. If you continue to Central Road and turn down towards the beach, there is the Home Pro outlet at the Big C Extra (aka Carrefour) outlet down a block or so.

If you have the time and have wheels drive to Global House in Rayong, (easy to Find just off the 36) prices are up to one third cheaper what they are in Pattaya particulally for tiles. Failing that look for the special price deals on tiles outside the HomeMart shop on Sukhumvit junction of Theppasit Road. I am also told Kanyong is competitive on most things, very big shop just near to Makro.

As per above. Global House makes any Pattaya hardware store look like a rip of!

There's another one in Chonburi, faster to get at from Pattaya. Take hwy 7 to Bkk, before you hit the tollway junction take the Chonburi direction, then further on take the Bang Saen direction and you'll see the store on your right...

For electrics, Pornchai has pretty sharp prices. One shop in Naklua, another on North Pattaya road between bus station and Sukhumvit.

Ahh yes Monty is correct, Chonburi is much nearer, I never think of going there as I am closer to Sattahip.

There is also a good electrical shop right opposite the petrol staion on Sukhumvit end of Theppasit, very knowledgeable speaks good english and will beat any other price on quantity, He also stocks stuff like the hard to find Wago Terminals.

If you are looking for a *REAL* (DIY) shop, and not the overpriced palaces like Boonthavorn etc., visit:

"The Hardwarehouse"

A giant store, they have really "everything", what a man needs..:D.

And *very important* for me: No annoying staff, who follow you like a shadow...

I hate this: "we have promotiooon...waterheateeer sirrr?" (Homepro)

  • 4 weeks later...

This has been useful for me too, as I'm here at the moment buying lots of stuff. Some really good choices and ideas in the places mentioned.

What I'm struggling with is trying to find a burglar alarm system and cable. Plenty of the cheap wireless stuff but cannot find a good hard wired system. Anybody know a good alarm shop in Patters?

You are here at the moment ohmy.png Drive down Theppasit from Sukhumvit toward the beach, thre is an an electrical supply shop opposite the petrol station, they have some alarm system stuff including the main box and maybe alarm cable. If not jump back in the car and drive maybe 1 km further along Theppasit toward the beach, as the road drops down into a dip, a road comes in from the left side at about a 45 degree angle. Right there on that junction is an alarm and camera shop. Pretty certain they will have everything in there.

If both of those turn up as no good PM me and I will give you the number of an installer who will have all the bits for a hard wired system.
