Accident Pickup Truck Crash into Expressway Pillar Under Investigation
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod In the early hours of today, a serious accident occurred in Mueang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, as a pickup truck collided with a pillar of the Udon Ratthaya Expressway. The accident, involving a Ford Ranger with Chai Nat registration, took place at about 2.40am in the Ban Mai subdistrict, Pak Kret district. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Surasit, suffered severe injuries, including a broken right leg and facial lacerations caused by shattered glass. Emergency responders provided first aid at the scene before rushing him to Chonprathan Pak Kret Hospital. Initial observations by police revealed skid marks just 10 metres from the crash site, indicating a sudden attempt to brake. This has led officers to consider excessive speed as a possible factor in the crash. It's believed that Surasit was travelling at high speed from Chaeng Watthana Road, and the challenging circular traffic layout may have hindered his ability to stop in time. Authorities have commenced a thorough investigation, planning to review CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events leading to the collision. The wrecked vehicle will be moved to the police station for further examination and safeguarding. As part of their inquiry, investigators are looking into whether any other factors, such as mechanical failure or external influences, could have played a role in the accident. The review of CCTV footage is expected to be crucial in confirming the details of the incident. Police are keen to understand the precise circumstances, as this will inform any legal proceedings and road safety recommendations. Residents and regular commuters in the region are reminded to exercise caution, particularly in areas with complex layouts, emphasising the need for safe driving practices. Accidents like these highlight the importance of road safety measures and adherence to speed limits. The authorities may consider implementing further safety precautions or signage in high-risk areas to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The cost of damage repair and medical expenses is yet to be determined, but typical costs could be substantial, potentially reaching over 100,000 Thai Baht or more, factoring in vehicle repair and healthcare. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers on the road and the need for continued vigilance from all road users. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-07-14 -
