I have just noticed

Date of entry: 3 Nov 2011

Tourist Visa + UK passport

Port of Entry: Suwannaphum

Admitted until: 1 Jan 2011

Please note the year of the date of "admitted until".

What is the best course of action? I was planning to do a Mae Sai visa run on 1 Jan 2012.

I suppose if you're near an immigration office you could ask for a correction. Just curious though, why not apply for a 30 day extension instead of crossing the border?

Mae Sai = 300 Baht for 60 days in my case.

Extension = 1900 Baht for 30 days.

No brainer.

Ok, seems a lot of people try to come and stay 5 or 6 months on double entries so thought I would ask. As to the date, it's clearly a mistake, I would be surprised if you had any problems.

I sorted it out myself.

Went to an immigration office. It was packed out with Chinese, Cambos, Burmese, Thai assistants to the forementioned. Have to say it was pretty chaotic.

Took a ticket. Waited 15 minutes. Realised I was being a sucker as everybody else was just thrusting forms at the officials. Did the same. It worked. After 5 minutes, I was told to fill out a "change visa form" and photocopy my passport (9 Baht!!)

10 minutes later, I returned the photocopies and completed forms.

20 minutes later, passport returned to me with 2011 crossed out, 2012 stamped messily and illegibly under it and another smudged stamp "แก้ไขจากประเภท TR เป็น 2012 ตามวีซ่าเลขที่ xxxxxxx ลงวันที่ 20 OCT 2011 หน้า 37 <new line> ลงชื่อ <signature> <new line> 19 DEC 2011

It took just under an hour. What a palaver.

2 Lessons learned: Don't go to an immigration office on a Monday morning. Check your 'admitted until' stamp very thoroughly as you pass through immigration.
