From what I understand from passed experiences that they charge you an excess when you have damage and there is no other party known.

However the charge is per claim, not per damage amount of scratches .As in your case the charge is pretty high it might be a percentage on the total amount.

So in fact if you report a hit and run they will deduct you a certain amount like 1000 or 2000 Baht, while if you say that you did the damage yourself as you hit your house gate you will have no charge.

Stay away from LMG I had health insurance with them . All good when you pay the fee but wait till you need to claim something .Then they will look everything in detail to find something not to pay out

Blame the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) for the 1,000 baht you have to pay. They do it out of fairness to the insurance companies. (Sometimes they help them. Sometimes they help you.) Had you had an accident where you weren't at fault and knew who was, you wouldn't have been charged that 1,000 baht. The insurance company would have had to collect cost for the damage themselves. Whether they could collect the money from the guilty party, or not, is not your problem. You did your job by directing them to the guilty party. (Ok. You need their license plate and/or a copy of the police report identifying the scratcher). The point is, you only have to pay if you are considered to be at fault. You are considered to be at fault if you can't identify the person who is. The Terms & Conditions of all auto insurance policies now have this clause. It doesn't matter who the auto insurer is.
