Hi,

I'm a dutch man whose own a condominium on Phuket for more then 7 years.

The last 5 years I apply for a non-immigrant one year visa with multiple entry, type -o- athe the ambassy in Brussel.

Because some circumstances I will get the same visa in Singapore. Many times a read it is difficult to get a visa in nabouring countrys around Thailand. Is there somebody with experience, and how many days it will take, 2?, and how much are the costs?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Peterphuket.

On what basis do you apply for such a visa? Are you married to a Thai? Are you over age 50 and retired? I am guessing that the condo does not meet requirements for an extension of stay from immigration?

No, I'm not married with a Thai, I'm 58 years old and retired and live for most of the time on Phuket, normaly I go for a copple of weeks back to Holland and go to Belgium for the visa. This time I like to stay on Phuket, no ther are no requirements but the last time in Belgium they ask for the original ownerpapers about my condo

Guess Sunbelt just got you married? :o

I would go to Penang as they are on record as helping those of retirement age obtain the multi entry. I would take a bank account book if you have one and the condo paperwork for show. That is likely to be your best bet in the local area.

Peterphuket you do know that the option to extend your stay 1 year at a time is available to you don't you? (subject to meeting the extension of stay requirements)

Just checking. :o

If you get a retirement visa you get a one year extension of stay which does not require you to leave the country. check out the TV site for requirements for a retirement visa: =retirement&sword_list[]=visa]Retirement visa

Criterias for retirement visa

Initially you must apply for a Non-Immigrant visa before you enter the country from a Thai Embassy abroad. Permission will be for 90 days. for the first permit (single entry) but you can apply for a multiple max one year stay in Thailand.

Requirements:

  1. Application form T.M.7

  2. Copy of passport or substitute document.

  3. One 4 x 6 cm photo.

  4. 500 baht fee.

  5. Proof of financial status or pension.

  6. Letter from your embassy saying you wish to retire in Thailand For an applicant who is over 50 years old, proof of a sum of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank OR an income of not less than 65,000 baht per month must be presented - OR a combination of balance in the bank and a monthly income. Example: 400,000 Baht in the bank and 32,500 Baht coming in every month.

  7. If the alien is ill, or has weak health and is sensitive to colder climates or has resided in Thailand for a long period, and is 50-59 years old, special circumstances may be given. The applicant must also submit medical certificates and proof that he/she lived in Thailand for a long time. For info: Tel: (02) 287-3905 or 287-3101-10 (ext 2259-61) or ask us.

Pensioners arriving before Oct 1998 with unbroken records while living here only need 200,000 baht in a Thai Bank when they apply for an extension.

A foreigner must show evidence that he/she has income amounting to at least 65,000 baht per month or a bank account amounting to at least of 800,000 baht in cash when initially applying for a one-year visa;

Ready the same day

With all the required documents in hand, and the bank certification dated the same date the applicant goes to the Immigration office, the one year Retirement Visa is usually ready in an hour or so, the same day.  Until early 2002 year it took 3 or 4 months - now, many of the Immigration offices have authority to issue the one year Retirement Visa without sending the applications, etc. to Bangkok - i.e. issue them the same day.

Note:

The bank certification of deposit (of 800,000 baht) must show that the money came into the bank from another country.

In the case of applications for one-year extensions of stay, or applications to change Tourist Visas or Transit Visas to Non-Immigrant Visas, evidence must be provided by each applicant that he/she has income or bank deposit in the same amounts as indicated in category 1 above.

RETIREES & THEIR SPOUSES:

Retirees who are married to a foreigner eg. Englishman married to say a Phillipino can apply for his "O" status non immigrant visa under the normal criteria of 800,000 baht or 65,000 baht coming in each month. However if he /she wants to include spouse on this Visa he/she must show evidence of marriage, e g marriage certificate.

There are two possible avenues for extension of stay for someone of your age and with condo ownership.

1. As outlined by SBK the retirement extension is what must people use and if you have the required pension or funds in the bank it is quite easy and once you get it you only have to visit immigration one time each year and no visa runs are required.

2. The second method is investment of 3 million baht or more (of a qualifying nature such as condo or investments in Thai government banking instruments). This requires a determination by immigration that the investment qualifies but would also allow one year stays with yearly renewal. If condo was purchased directly from a Thai it may qualify (if appraised value over 3 million or you have other investments to put with it).

sbk has outlined the requirements for 1 year extension of stay to put it simply if you enter Thailand on single entry non imm O visa you will recieve a 90 day stay stamp within the last 30 d ays of this stay you can apply at local immigration for what is known as an extension of stay these last 1 year at a time during which time it is not neccessary for you to leave the Kingdom but you are required to report your address every 90 days at local immigration (a painless procedure).

To qualify for the extension you must provide evidence of either 800k baht in thai bank which has been brought in from overseas or a verifiable income of 65k a month or combination thereof............there are other minor requirements e.g health certificate (obtained locally).

If you wish to leave Thailand during the 1 year extension you may do so but need to obtain what is known as a re-entry permit these come in two forms a single entry and a multiple entry............fees 1000 and 3800? baht respectively...............these are available locally and have the effect of protecting your extension of stay stamp.

At the end of the year extension you can renew it by either bringing in a fresh 800k or topping up the existing balance................immigration will want to see that you are using the funds to live here, otherwise they will think you are working..................providing you continue to meet the criteria you need never leave Thailand again if you so wish.

Edit......sorry Lopburi was posting at the same time as me.

I think Lopburi meant to say "most people" and not "must people".........just as not to confuse you. :o

The last time I was in Singapore (september 05) they said that no multi will be issued, only single entry and not 1 year but 90 days even for retirement.

If you are in Thailand and over 50 why don't you apply for an extension at Phuket immigration bureau (you will need medical certificate and 800k coming from abroad in a Thai bank account)

Thanks a lot for all the answers, but I don't want a retirement visa, and yes the condo I own, I bought it for 6 Mbath from the constructor, Thai company. But if I understand Thaiflyer1 well, then I have to go to Brussel to get my multiple visa.

As I said before why don't you try Penang? If you have the condo papers I believe you will probably be able to obtain there. I know people without condo but with 200k or less in a bank account in Thailand have been successful.

If I were in your position I would go down to immigration and ask about investment visa on the basis of your condo. At the very least it would probably give you an extension until a final decision is made and perhaps you will not have to worry about visas again.

If you wanted to go for extension of stay you should be able to obtain a single entry non imm O down in Penang with little problem................as Lopburi states 200k in the bank should be sufficent.

If you go this route you/ll recieve a 90 day stamp when you come back into Thailand after 60 days start the application for extension of stay...........i.e bring the 800k into the country.

If you do not want the extension of stay but only want a multiple entry O (what you have had in the past).............then as had previously been said Penang is your best bet.................at the very worst they will give you a single entry.....(my own feelings are you will get the multi though)
