My office manager will be collecting the result of my annual visa extension on Wednesday and this will be followed by an application for a re-entry permit. However she informs me that for the re-entry permit I must be at Immigration in person. Is this correct or can she act as my representative to handle this application?

I think they now require a photocopy of your passport (data pages and extension stamp etc) as well as the permit app form & photo. Can anyone confirm this?

As they retain your passport (in which they put the Re-entry stamp), they should not require photocopies of particulars which are obviously in your passport.

No-one retains the passport!!!!!!!!!!! Upon applying for an extension you keep it and return with it when it is stamped in your passport, going for a re-entry is only a stamp, so where you get that idea from I do not know

I suspect poster is talking about the process - they take your passport to make the entry and this can be minutes to many hours depending on the office. But yes they do need photo copies just as they do for an extension of stay or transfer of stamps into a new passport. They do not have budget/time for doing this themselves so it is up to applicant to have the required copies.

Also at the bottom of the TM8 (re-entry permit) it states that the applicant must appear in person, so if the Op gets it he has been very lucky indeed.

if you're lucky like I was yesterday the same IO handled the transfer of stamps to a new passport, my new retirement extension application and the re-entry permit application all in one go and I had extra copies of required documentation to offer if requested...everything went smoothly with no interruptions...

always best to go prepared when your presence is required for whatever procedure at the immigration office...and if your company's representative has his/her act together he/she should be able to advise you accordingly...
