Does anyone know if I can buy those acupressure bracelets (that help with car sickness) here in Thailand? And more specifically Chiang Mai ??

I often take friends on the Mae Hong Son Loop, and the 1,864 curves on this does tend to cause car sickness for a lot of people!

I have never actually used them, and not sure how effective they are, but I find that many people don't like taking oral pills for car sickness due to side effects of drowsiness so maybe these bracelets are worth a try

If anyone has found these bracelets to be effective and if you have any suggestions for brands/types, would be good to hear from you

I don't take a full tab, but 1/2 seems to work pretty good and I'm not as sleepy.

What about ginger tea? Or something like that. I"ve heard it works quite well???

Boots do sell the wrist bands you're looking for, elasticated with plastic beads to go on the pressure points on your wrist. I've tried them (not from Boots in Chiang Mai though) and I'd describe it as a placebo effect as although there are many theories about what causes motion sickness, I think it's caused by dis-coordination between the way movement is sensed (ears, eyes, body) so placebo remedies can work (in my personal opinion as someone who suffers from motion sickness). The most effective thing Boots sell is Dimenhydrinate albeit accompanied by severe drowsiness. The best remedy I've ever experienced was an injection of

Antihistamines (administered by a doctor).

I don't know about bracelet availability, but a well known acupressure technique/point is Pericardium 6. http://albanacupuncture.com/2009/02/09/the-greatest-acupressure-point-for-nausea-reflux-and-hiccups/ Find the general area of the point according to photo/diagram, approx 4 fingers width from the crease in the wrist, then find the most sensitive spot to pressure. Gently massage that point with circular penetrating pressure, not so hard as to be very painful, but right at the point of tenderness.

To reduce the tendancy to car sickness, eat balanced diet, don't drink alcohol, especially the night before traveling, do grounding excercises from Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Yoga; and possibly see Dr Wong at Chip An Tong Dispensary on Chang Moi Rd at Wararot Market, between Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai bank.
