Came To Thailand With New Passport, Extension In Old Passport

Featured Replies

Landing Bangkok late November with both old and new passports.

Got entry stamp in new passport, in line with extension of stay permitted day old passport.

Went to Udon immigration 28 December to renew extension based on retirement, had 800k in deposit account for 4 months (TMB bank, 1 year deposit, got 3.75% interest into savings account 7 working days after deposit -15% tax)

Got free certificate of deposit from TMB same morning, a 2012 calendar and a mug, I think I like that bank (for the time being).

The whole process took 45 minutes, extra time needed to transfer old retirement extension into new passport first.

Came the bill, showed on a calculation machine: 6300 baht, 500 for the transfer I was told.

Quick brain calculation: Extension 1900+ multiple re-entry 3800+ transfer 500 (thought was free?) = 6200.

They made a few extra photocopies +100B? = 6300.

Hmmm, think Immigration is making good money, BTW she did write some receipts but did not hand them over.

I'm not going to make a fuzz, so waied kindly and walked out.

90 days reporting is for 27 March 2012.

Free transfer of stamps from old to new passport in Nonthaburi.

Transfer of details to a new paspsort is free.

If you don't get a receipt, it is usually saying a lot.

When I do get a new passport, which should be sent to me in Thailand, what items do I need to transfer?

I have a retirement extension.

The items that spring to mind are.

1) The original non-Imm O multiple (expired some years now but probably needed for further retirement extensions)

2) Current retirement extension stamp.

3) Last entry stamp into the kingdom.

Can all this be done at Chonburi (Pattaya)?

Here I see 2 possible forms....

1) Transfer Stamp to a new passport (this suggests it has to be done at Bangkok!)

2) Request of Change New Passport (similar)

Perhaps just talk to Barry there...

It is called new passport form and on the page you provided.

You will need copies of both new and old passport data page and old passport visa/extension(s)/arrival stamp and believe of departure card. They make notations of visa/arrival and put new extension stamp in the new passport.

The stamps take 2 new pages of your passport, there are stamps for the original Visa, then stamps for the last extensions, then various other stamps

Thanks....

Actually they didn't want any of that rubbish at Chonburi (Pattaya)... just the old passport, the new one and come back tomorrow.

Tomorrow all done and no charges.

Ditto in Chiang Mai last year.

There is no charge but most offices will want the paperwork filled out by applicant and the photo copies - have done several times myself and have seen many reports that confirm this process. This was Jomtien office that required and received nothing? Perhaps they going Green and scanning?
