How To Monitor Usage On A 50 Hr/Mth Ais Plan ?

Featured Replies

I purchased an Ais 3G/EDGE post paid plan 149 bhat /month and now need an Android app to see how long I am online in case something on this phone (LG 3D) is using allot of time without my knowledge. Most monitoring apps just focus on data downloaded.

I think I can also dial *911# or *96# but as I have not yet learnt Thai I cannot workout what it is saying . Note this postpaid plan is in a friends name.

Cheers

I use *911*1#

Go to an AIS shop or call the call centre to get it changed into English so you can understand it,

Forgot to mention - this is a data only plan although I do seem to be able to make calls.

I believe this is a new offer by GSM/AIS.

Can someone also tell me can I answer calls if in airplane mode. I have been using this slit to avoid uncontrolled usage.

Are unused hours added to next month a tally or expire?

you do not need to use airplane mode . that shuts off ALL RADIO.

just turn off 'data enabled' you can still use the phone as usual. texts . talk etc. but for the net just turn it back on. or use wifi (thats free in many places)

there may be an app widget on the market to save going into settings, you would be better of with a proper data plan . not hourly.

On my Android, I slide down from top and get options for Network, Mobile Internet, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and Portable Hotspot. Can turn off Mobile Internet there.

Alternatively Menu -> Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Mobile Internet.

For those on Prepay 12Call, *139# will tell you how many minutes/MBs of internet you have remaining.

calls to 1175 are free.

How to turn VAS off and on, using the keypad on your phone

You can turn off-on 3G/EDGE/GPRS service easily by yourself to control your budget and protect your expense from automatic data connection of your smart phone.

thanks again beano and sorry for misspelling yr name...mob autocorrect. thanks for simple solutions and suggestions naboo and thaicbr i dint realisehow slow the network in udontharni was on edge...i will see if i can change to data based plan from time based.

excellent source of advice on thaivisa once again!

calls to 1175 are free.

Sorry but that is not true, calls to 1175 are charged as normal calls to AIS network. You can verify this yourself by calling *121# to receive your balance, then call 1175, and after check *121# again. Calling *121# is free which you can verify in the same way (call it twice in a row).

As for the OP, if you have a smartphone (Android or Iphone) i would strongly suggest you take out the traffic-limited package - 150MB unlimited time for 150B - instead (*133*21#). That allows you to leave the phone on at all time and receive push mail. The time-limited packages are IMO better suited for laptop/pc usage.

I don't know of any Android apps that will monitor time-limited usage so you're limited to using *129*2# to check your balance with the time-limited packages.

There are many Android apps that will monitor traffic-limited usage, I like one called "my data manager free". You can get it free from Android Market. It shows you in details what app is using your bandwidth.

You can see the various packages here - http://www.ais.co.th...ternet-package/

I use DroidStats but this only allows you to track/monitor/alert by MB.

Unless you are using an air-card a time-based mobile broadband data plan is not recommended. The first time you forget to turn the radio off you'll eat through a significant portion of your remaining time balance. Use up your current time allotment, call 1175 to cancel that plan then subscribe to a volume-based plan.

*139# returns your data plan status; not sure if the e-Service platform shows current usage. (DTAC's e-Services platform does.)

You may be able to toggle data on/off from the Action Bar, top-most part of the screen, drag it down, then scroll left/right. (This varies by firmware/manufacturer's bloatware.)

You can also use a program like Quick Settings which allows one-click access to many functions, including toggling data on/off.

thanks phil and lomatopo. good advice. i will change to the suggested package phil...cannot do it via dialling the codeyousupplied though..get message to ring call centre. also fyi on this plan for some reason 129 does not provide bal need to use 911. 121 doesnt woork either.

lomatopo thanks for tips will download app also code139 does not provide plan status for me...will get the appropriate codes when next in the shop. when first signed up the phone did not set and spent ages on the phone with call centre trying to configuree internet settings. had to copy rom another mobile in the end.

thanks again everyone.

Sorry, I just re-read your OP and see you are on a post-paid plan.

The USSD codes supplied, *121, *139, *133 et al apply to pre-paid plans.

You can layer on extra post-paid services from "Smart Mix & Match" http://www.ais.co.th...-and-match.aspx albeit at inflated prices. Example: 1 GB is 550 baht, while 1GB is 350 baht with One-2-Call (pre-paid).

Well *133*21# is the code they give on their website. If that doesn't work perhaps it's because you're already on another plan that hasn't expired yet, just guessing. Why not call them and ask?

I use *121# to get my balance and *139# to see the remaining traffic/volume in my plan, every day.

Seeing none of the codes apparently work for you, are you sure you use them the right way? Just enter the whole thing as I typed it above and press the dial button .....

Edit: Ah, I just noticed as well you're on post pay. In that case there are other rules... I think you need to call the helpdesk, USSD codes are just for prepay plans. In fact why not change to prepay, much better control of the cash flow and much more flexibility to change plans. IMO of course.

all the the codes work fine on my prepaid sim 1 2 call. but not on this prepaid service.

thanks for noticing lomatopo. i chose the postpaid because i wanted to pay one year in advance and not worry about it or put it on a credit card.k had to use friends credit card beause dont accept foreigncrds debit or credit. anyway will sort it next few days at the store.

cheers all

another excellent mb checker is '3g watchdog'. it does kb's as well and separates the mobile from the wifi

I used 3g watchdog for a while but found it extremely simplistic. Have a look at "my data manager free". You can get it free from Android Market. It shows you in details what app is using your bandwidth.

I just had a look at DroidStats on lomatopo's recommendation. It also seems like a good but broader app also monitoring talk time etc but afaics it does not break down the data usage per app. like "my data manager" - I found that very useful when my whole quota suddenly has disappeared.
