13 suspected drug users caught at Pattaya Police Checkpoints

PATTAYA: -- As the Pattaya Police checkpoints continue, so do the numbers of drug-related arrests. Late on Wednesday Night 13 people were arrested at checkpoints located in North and South Pattaya after they had failed urine tests, confirming the recent ingestion of methamphetamine. The 8 men and 5 women were taken to Pattaya Police Station and charged with class 1 drug consumption which could see them serve time in prison, if they are found guilty in Court.

Must be a first. Normally see that girls outnumber men by a large factor when urine tests are made

I'm probably naive, but I didn't realize that consumption carried a prison term.

What would a typical sentence be for a "consumer," vs possession of the non-consumed drug, vs possession of sufficient quantity to be considered a "distributor?"

Possession is possession whether it's in your pocket or in your blood. coffee1.gif

If illegal substances are found in your urine (or blood) during tests then that is proof that you ingested them which is in itself a criminal offence under Thai Law. Possession offence is sometimes (but not always) related to quantity found on you as is the supplier offence. Penalties for each of those might vary if you have also ingested the substance. The exact penalties for any of these offences are subcribed by Thai Law but can be quite arbitrary at a Police station level. Repeat offences can get harsher penalties.
