Where Can I Buy The Board Game "Taboo"?

Featured Replies

I've looked in Toys R Us and Kinokuniya but neither of them stock it. Does anyone have any idea where I might find Taboo in Bangkok?

1980's was the best place to buy it

Spencers Giftsph34r.png . Used to have one in every mall in America during the 70's & 80's. Blacklight posters, vibrators, magic tricks and games like Taboo.

Try Ebay. Chog dee

What? Taboo is a timeless classic like Scrabble or Monopoly... But I guess the Thais wouldn't appreciate it. OK ebay it is then.

You can't compare Taboo to the likes of Scrabble and Monopoly - like comparing Spy with a Margaux.

Anyway, build the board yourself, and use this web site

Jobs a good'un.

Agree that taboo has grown into a classic, but it's highly language dependent, and the market for English editions of Taboo in Thailand is rather limited, hence unlikely to be found in stores.

You might try Battle-Field Bangkok (http://battlefieldbangkok.com/bfb/index.php?page=where-are-we), a store primarily focused on CoSims, but with a wide selection of other American and European style games.

You might also look into Dixit ( http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39856/dixit , available at BFB) as an alternative. It has a similar focus (getting messages across to the other players). It's slightly more subtle, less hectic, and language independent (the players need a common language, but it doesn't matter whether that language is English, Thai or whatever).

But I guess the Thais wouldn't appreciate it.

There is Thai Scrabble (Kham Khom). Haven't seen Thai Taboo yet. Of course Taboo is only fun if you're really fluent in the language used. Farang board game culture is growing among high school and university students ( http://thaiboardgame.net/forum/index.php?action=forum )

Wouldn't recommend playing off the laptop/phone. There are quite a number of good cards, which you might capture and print out, but 50-70% are crappy (most likely user submissions, some extremely easy, some obviously inside jokes, some adult content).
