31 Day Stay = Overstay?

Featured Replies

I go to Thailand twice a year and have never overstayed. This year my confirmed reservation is for 31 days: the waitlist is full for one day earlier (30 days), and I am waitlisted now for two days earlyer (29 days). In some ways I figure 31 days is perfect because the first day overstay is free anyway. That departure flight leaves at 11:40 PM, which is cutting it close, but as long as that doesn't get delayed I will be out of the country in 31 days. If I overstay by the one "free" day, do I get a nasty "overstay" stamp in my passport? I'm a bit compulsive, and a worrier, and wouldn't want a bad mark in my passport.

Does one day "free" overstay get a bad stamp in your book, or is it walk through just like 30 days?

Thanks, Drew

Yes it will normally get an overstay stamp but at airport no fine.

Do remember that your arrival day counts as Day-1 when calculating the permitted length of stay, so you may actually be in Thailand for 32 days leading to a 1000 Baht fine.

Thanks! I double checked and it is 31 with the arrival day counted (Jan 28 - Feb 27).

Bummer about getting an overstay stamp though. I'll push for my waitlist to clear (then down to 29 days).

Thanks,
