pxlgirl
My hair is very thin and I really envy thai women for their beautiful and strong hair. Mine is above shoulder length at the moment, if I'd grow them the way I want, they would look flat. So I was thinking about getting hair extensions. Does anyone have experience with it? sbk
We had a thread on this a while back, I was thinking of getting them. I think the problem lies in what type of extensions you get, someone said, better to get the little rings than the glue. I never did try it, so can't tell you for sure
LaReina
a friend got the click kind and said her hair broke. So it can be risky if your hair is already thin. Glue is DEFINETLY a NO GO like SBK stated. By the way, all that glitters is not gold, quite a few thai women have extensions.. just go to the places where hair is done e.g. beside the mall bangkapi and you will be surprised. sbk
Extensions if not done by an expert and the hair is fairly straight, are also pretty noticeable. Just look for the line of hair.
samuidreams
If you've never used extensions before I'd use clip in extensions until you are used to them/comfortable with them. My first set of extensions came from 'foxy locks extensions' online and they were fab!!!
pxlgirl
I've actually seen quite a few thai gals getting their hair extensions done, that's why I also thought about it. I have natural curls, so it might not stand out as much.
phuturatica
There are 3 different kinds of hair extensions: Mircorings, Glued in, Clip in... I used to run a fake hair/extension business in the UK before I moved out here and microrings are by far the best in terms of looking the best and more professional and less noticeable. Especially during the hairline. Clip in extensions work really well if clipped in at the bottom underneath and they add much more volume. The main problem is finding the right colour (I'm ginger so it was a nightmare!) also it depends on what your natural hair is like. If you have thin hair and it's very dry, it will be noticeable as it'll be different from the sleek extensions. Also if you have curly hair like me, it's near impossible to find extensions which match your natural curls. I used to have to have mine quite wacky and backcomb the extensions because my natural curly hair was quite hard to tame and make look the same as the extensions. Foxylocks extensions is a great clip in hair extension website and I have used them many times if you're thinking of doing it yourself.
pxlgirl
Any idea how much the microrings method would cost in Thailand?
djlest
For anyone looking for Hair extensions in Bangkok you may want to check out the video below - as far as techniques go yes there are quite a few and it really depends on the hair you have, how thin and processed it is and how many hair extensions you plan on having. the latest technology is silicone microrings as they cause less damage, and fusion bonding which means a more seamless bond and no metal bits you can feel when you run your fingers through. I think its best to go to the specialist salon first and have a look at the various options. A good salon will give you a few testers and you can choose from there, i believe there are pros and cons to each technique Zenred is a relatively new salon in bangkok famous for quality stuff and more for westerners
sarah311
I already had those glued in extensions and those to clip in. I really prefer the clip in extensions, it needs some practice but it's the best for me. My hair didn't broke, and it was really comfortable that i could put them out at night. I bought them online here in Germany, then i went to a salon to get exactly the same colour and they also cutted my hair in a way that noone ever saw that i had extensions. The glued in extensions damaged my hair a lot, they're also quite expensive here in Germany and they didn't look that good after a few weeks.. Jenny Adara
ive enjoyed the hair extensions i got a Zenred a few months back, ofcourse for me my hair is naturally dark hair so its easier for me. But a few blonde ladies were at the salon when i got mine done and they looked really nice, they do take quite a while though so if you are going to have them done and want them colour matched, you will need a good few hours. Be prepared to read a book or a lot of magazines or take your iphone or ipad. They have free wifi in the salon so that's always good! Also highly recommend the new Argan oil Moroccan Aftercare they have at zenred, its wonderful for keeping your hair healthy and moist, especially extensions. jamiesilver
I am absolutely in Love with these hair extensions in Bangkok i got last month. Definitely the best hair extensions i've ever had!I thoroughly recommend this salon. I had a full head of Premium Virgin Remy Human hair extensions and they look amazing.Colour matched perfectly for me too. very friendly place and easy to find... Loads of before and after pics here: https://www.facebook.com/hairextensionsbangkokthailandI splurged out on some UK Great Lengths hair extensions 2 years ago which cost well over 1000 pounds, surprisingly these Bangkok hair extensions knock spots of them. If what Zenred say is true these extensions can last 12 months or more. My great lengths hair extensions only lasted me 5 months so that was around 200 pounds per month which is just crazy! My Bangkok hair extensions I paid just 400 pounds for, so if i get a year out of them its just 30 pounds (1000 baht) a month. So far everyone has complimented me on them and want to know how did my hair grow so fast, lol. Personally i prefer the keratin bonded extensions, they just feel a lot more natural in my hair compared to microring hair extensions, they don't slip out so easily either. So far in the last 5 weeks i have only lost one extension - Pretty amazing.

jamiesilver
You really get what you pay for when it comes to hair extensions, avoid factory processed hair or the cheap stuff if you want them to last. The better they are the less maintenance you need. The ones i had at zenred still look and feel fantastic. but i had others in Bangkok at a salon i wont mention, and they matted into a huge ball i had to get them removed after just 1 month. You will know if its real hair when they color it in the shop, if its already been colored it could well be synthetic or factory stuff. djlest
Hey Jamie i agree you get what you pay for here! Now there is a brand new salon in Sukumvit 13 doing some really good quality hair extensions in Bangkok. They are not the usual junk from Khaosarn road that look great for a week then fall apart, They can last upto 12 months, be recolored, flat ironed and even permed. Also they dont use that nasty silicone glue thats toxic & a nightmare to remove. They use the proper Italian keratin fusion bonds or micro links and use 100% virgin remy hair. Check it out - we were there last week! Before after Pics www.facebook.com/zaharasalonbangkok www.zaharasalonbangkok.com
Streem26
You may want to consider Zenred Salon for professional grade Hair Extensions, they have quite an informative website and do things like brazilian blowout http://hairstylezz.com/best-brazilian-blowout-before-and-after/ and have various types of hair extensions, such as double drawn, single drawn. Other people who have had hair extensions at Zenred can be found on the facebook page, you can find it here: facebook.com/hairextensionsbangkokthailand The salon itself is also more geared up towards expats, travelers and tourists etc. The stylists are professional, some are UK trained and speak better English than me, and prices are cheap when compared to MBK or Emporium prices. Khaosarn road is also a popular place for cheap hair extensions, but i think you can read on many forums about the dangers of silicone glue being used, synthetic hair or horse hair, and some are really difficult or damaging to the hair when its time to remove them, which if the hair is not good quality can be just a few weeks. I think its the age old adagio, you get what you pay for... Ive been a happy customer at Zenred for a few years now, and i was also a hair stylist back in the UK. LeilaLee
I think another thing to think about is also whether or not the extensions are ethically sourced. I would hate to think I am walking around with some poor girls hair that she was forced to cut off. Ethically sourced does cost a little bit more, but in my opinion its important... I thought this article on the subject of explotation of young girls for their hair is interesting: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/indepth/national/black-gold/
Jenny Adara
Friend of mine moved to Bangkok about 6 months ago, then suddenly found she was losing quite a lot of hair. I think sometimes its maybe related to stress, hormones maybe even a drastic change of diet. I was told by Zenred hair loss can be related to Sebum which is the oil we produce from our scalp and too much of it causes hair fall. They sell some good hair loss products that I think work well and seem to make hair grow quicker, its called QOD Vitta shampoo, I use it myself and you can also buy tonics that you squirt on and massage into the scalp. Anyway, for hair extensions my friend found another salon in ploenchit for anyone still looking for alternatives, its here:https://www.facebook.com/savannahairnailsalonbangkok And another place you may want to check out in Sukhumvit road is this one::http://www.zaharasalonbangkok.com/hair-extensions-bangkok-thailand
