Myself & my family are currently planning on travelling to Thailand for 3 weeks from 30th March 2012, my British passport is due for renewel on 24th September 2012 & my sons British passport on 25th August 2012, As travel will be just less than 6 months from passport end, I'm wondering will there be any problems either with the airline (Emirates) or at Thai immigration.

My Son also has a Thai passport so we will be using this at Thai immigration. My wife also is Thai & will be travelling on her Thai passport both of which are new last year.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No problem as you will still have 6 months validity even when you leave. I travelled once a few years ago on a Uk passport with about 3 months to expiry, nobody was even slightly interested then.

Your Passport does not have the required validity. It's the Airlines responsibility to check this.

If they fail to notice & you are denied entry to Thailand the Airline will have to repatriate

you to your last port of embarcation. The middle east if travelling with Emirates.Personally i would

not risk spoiling the family holiday & would obtain a new Passport.

Your sons Passport is fine as Thai Passport has required validity for Uk exit .

I believe there is no longer a 6 month validity requirement when using a visa exemption entry.

Let's move this to Visas where those who know reside smile.png

I wouldn't risk it, it is the airline that will refuse you at check in. The airlines all use a service called TIMATIC from IATA-a computer programme that will auto match dates and visa policy for the destination, sometimes with the check in agents common sense isn't so common.

As said there is no 6 month requirement.

Passport required.

- Nationals of USA can enter with passports and/or passport

replacing documents valid for the period of intended stay.

Useful information here http://www.delta.com...ation/index.jsp

No requirement for 6 month validity. ?????????

You want to read that again !!! it states

"

If you are traveling anywhere overseas, even to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico, you now need a passport to board an international flight and to enter any country. In general your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date you enter a foreign country

. "

BUT it is an American site.

As a holder of a BRITISH passport he wants to know this because ???

That is a general requirement, as many countries require a validity of at least 6 months. Thailand no longer requires a 6 month vaidity, only that the passport is valid for the duration of the proposed stay.

From the Delta site I linked to:-

National United Kingdom (GB) /Destination Thailand (TH) vi_de.gif Thailand (TH) in_on_no.gif Passport required. - Nationals of United Kingdom can enter with passports and/or passport replacing documents valid for the period of intended stay.

Sorry about the formatting :(

The same rule also applies to UK passports - there is no six month requirement on entry, only that passport is valid for the period of stay allowed. For issue of a visa from a Consulate the six month rule may be enforced however.

I entered USA into the search. UK comes up with the same.
