There's New Sukhothai and Old Sukhothai there is accommodation in both, there are more hotels, resorts & guesthouses than tourists, ranging from 250 to 3000, night life is in and around New Sukhothai, Old Sukhothai is a religious village nothing much after 10pm except 7 - 11.smile.png

Sorry to revive an old thread but I think this is best as I do not want to open a new one as this is related.

I have decided on staying in the old city (love the quietness and the location to the historical park), and I've zoned in on the Old City Guesthouse as per the travelfish recommendation and tripadvisor reviews.

However, I can't seem to make a reservation with them (called them three times over the week), and I only got phone replies of "No, no stay here" with the numbers as posted. Anyone can make heads or tails out of this?

If not, would it be safe to assume that there will be at least 2 rooms when I roll into Sukhothai this Saturday (22nd December)? I don't want to be stuck in a peak period with no place to stay.

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tips guys.

However, Sir Dancealot (with your respectful moustache), I will be going in a group of four as a family so I don't think a motorbike will be adequate.

Bicycles will be the order of the day. Or is it more recommended to get a taxi then?

@Spaniel:

I am actually looking for places to stay near Old City, and whether it would be able to reserve a place via telephone booking.

Please let me know, thanks!

FWIW, it's not clear from your posts but if you do have your own car you can purchase a ticket/pass which allows you to drive into/around/through, and park, the walled city. I honestly can't remember how much it was, maybe as little as 40 baht?

Be sure to visit the ruins outside the walled city, to the west, north (esp. Wat Si Chum), east (Wat Chang Lom) and even south.

I was there 5 months ago on the motorbike. And yes the car fee is more then B40. Could be B200 of the top of my mind. So yes you can. Just asked my GF to verify and she says yesthumbsup.gif. We went there 5 months ago so if they didn't change policy you should be good to go.

Always nice to help out fellow travellers if i can. Hope you will be lucky Mr Chong and Mr. Loma.

I was there 3 weeks ago, driving a car; just found the ticket. It was 50 baht for the car pass.

They have Sam Loo ( 3 wheeled motorcycle vehicles ) for taking people around the park and trams too.

Bicycles if you want are OK for park, many other places to see outside of the actual park in and around forest hills etc.

No need to book, many places to stay near old city there are more guest houses here now than people staying.biggrin.png
