Just bought a new one, before when I lived in Hua Hin they'd buy my old one for 300 bht, but here they just tried to keep it (3x!). Don't want to throw it away, at least give to good cause.

Every battery place anywhere in Chiang Mai has always given me a discount for taking the old one. 300 baht or so sounds about right.

This is both the big service centers that also do tires and shocks and things, and also small mom and pop dedicated battery shops.

Yes, but you have to negotiate this deal. No shop is going to offer a deal. They just hope you don't know anything and just leave the old battery as junk.

Right.. I suppose so. It's kind of second nature.

I've had babies born and still out of instinct I ask the hospital what the discounts are on my baby. And then actually get one. Or get two tickets from police close together and then ask for a volume discount. And then actually get it. ("Look, just yesterday I got this here ticket for talking on the phone while driving, and now less than one day later it turns out I can't park on the road with the homeopathic-grade red & white curb paint, so ..")
