Ais 3G Wifi Router - Don'T Get Caught Out

Featured Replies

So, unable to get regular internet at my location outside of Chiang Mai, I am using a 3G sim card from AIS via a WiFi router. This costs a fixed price of 599thb/month and suited my needs fine so imagine my horror and disgust when this month's bill hit the mat at 2,193 thb. Urk!!!

I went to AIS HQ here and was told that my promotional plan had ended on 27th December. So, no letter, no nothing, AIS just stuck me on the default rate and my PCs and dreambox merrily gobbled their way through over 2ks worth of data without my knowledge. The AIS lady said something about sending an SMS but being as the sim card is in the router, I'd never see an SMS anyway. So, any of you others with a similar setup - check your plan and don't get caught out like I unwittingly did.

BTW, new plan available is 799thb/month and is for unlimited data.

Cheers,

Pikey.

If you are on the 799 baht plan that appears to be 3 GB fair-use, then 384 Kbps after. The good news is that you will not be paying anything extra.

There is an 899 baht package with 5 GB fair-use.

You could get these on a pre-paid plan as well.

Lomatopo, hmmm, the lady definitely said "unlimited" after checking out my traffic usage for the past couple of months. Guess I'll find out if/when I get throttled back......

Cheers,

Pikey.

I haven't used an AIS wifi router but assume the program installed to use it would be similar/look similar to the program for an AIS dongle (aircard). If so then when you open up the window to connect to the internet one of the options you can access on that page is your text messages.wai.gif

Lomatopo is correct over the 3G fair use policy, 3GB/5GB then 384Kbps, depending on your plan.
