Army Chief Dismisses April Coup Rumors

BANGKOK: -- The Army chief denied receiving any reports that there could be a coup in April as claimed by a Pheu Thai Party MP.

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha dismissed claims by Pheu Thai Party MP Jatuporn Phromphan that he received a report from a U.S. Intelligence agency of a possible coup in April.

Prayuth said he has not received any such report and that anyone who thinks Jatuporn's remarks were inappropriate and could affect national security can file for legal action against him.

Regarding the government's invitation of statesman and Privy Council Chief Prem Tinsulanonda to a function to thank the international community for flood relief contributions at Government House, the Army chief said the government can invite anyone to the party, including General Prem, who is much respected in Thai politics.

He believes the statesman will accept the invitation. Prayuth added that he too will attend the function if invited, because there is no point in getting stuck in past conflicts and it's time the nation moves on.

Pheu Thai Party MP Jatuporn Phromphan that he received a report from a U.S. Intelligence agency of a possible coup in April.

This bafoon is trying to make people believe he is important enough to receive a U. S. Intelligence agency report. Even in his wildest dreams if he did try to contact them they would laugh their arse off. Now he is calling for the red mobs to hit the streets again. This should be interesting.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Teachers have used the fable as a cautionary tale about telling the truth but a recent educational experiment suggested that reading "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" increased children’s likelihood of lying, while a book on George Washington and the cherry tree decreased it dramatically. The suggestibility and favourable outcome of the behaviour described therefore seems the key to the moral nurture of the young.

When dealing with the moral behavior of adults, however, Samuel Croxallasks, with reference to political alarmism, "when we are alarmed with imaginary dangers in respect of the public, till the cry grows quite stale and threadbare, how can it be expected we should know when to guard ourselves against real ones?"

Defense Minister dismissed coup rumors as unfounded

BANGKOK, 9 February 2012 (NNT)-Defense Minister Air Chief Marshall Sukhumpol Suwannathat has demanded that Pheuthai Party List MP Mr. Jatuporn Prompan stop spreading rumors about a military coup, while also urging those opposing the lese majeste law to stop their movement.

According to the Defense Minister, Mr. Jatuporn said he had received an inside information from the American intelligence agency which, he claimed, that another coup was in the making and slated to take place in April.

The Air Chief Marshal said the U.S. would have come to him instead of Mr. Jatuporn had the information been true. He added that, while the information remains unverified, Mr. Jatuporn should not have made such a statement as it would provoke undue chaos.

He has reassured, in his capacity as the head of the Thai Defense Ministry, that the military will do no such thing. The military is also duty bound to defend the monarchy and many high ranking military officials have showntheir strong opposition against the movement to amend the lese majeste law, said the Minister.

He further added that protesters should stop campaigning for the revision of this sensitive law on a daily basis as it would have a negative impact on Thailand in the eyes of the world community.

Probably something lost in translation. first "US would come to the MoD", second "say nothing till info verified".

Leaves me wondering, as usual huh.png

Army chief to Red Shirt leader: ‘Who will stage coup?’

image_20120209143721610B8D7C-07F2-E267-CF136AF979165536.jpg

BANGKOK, Feb 9 - Thai army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Thursday dismissed Red Shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan's claim of a possible coup in April, asking him “Who will stage the coup?”.

The army chief reacted one day after the Pheu Thai party-list MP and key Red Shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan claimed that some members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) and his "associates who work with US Intelligence" told him that a coup is likely in April.

Gen Prayuth asked the protest leader to identify the group of military personnel who will conduct the coup as he had no knowledge of it, regardless whether from Thai or foreign intelligence sources.

The army chief said anyone who believe such rumour negatively affects Thai national security can file charges against the person who released it.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra commented similarly as the army chief on Thursday, saying she has not been informed of any coup possibility.

Ms Yingluck said she believed that Mr Jatuporn raised the issue as a warning. She noted that everyone has the right to express opinion, but that such expression should not go beyond the legal limit.

The premier stated that all parties should be relaxed as the military has already made its stance clear on the matter.

Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukampol Suwannathat meanwhile criticised Mr Jatuporn as "talking too much", assuring the public that there was no such thing as a coup in the wings as the red shirt leader claimed.

ACM Sukampol dismissed the claim as ridiculous, asking rhetorically why the CIA had not alerted him but the Red Shirt leader.

The minister stood firm that the top brass never wanted to stage a coup. (MCOT online news)

A fairly meaningless statement. Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD leader Jatuporn didn't express an opinion, but referred to information allegedly provided to him by a U.S. Intelligence Agency. Well, k. Jatuporn is lucky, in some countries he's be incarcerated and tried for treason by now on either "revealing military secrets" or "publishing foreign gossip" biggrin.png

Defence minister tells Jatuporn to stop talking about coup

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Defence Minister Sukampol Suwannathat Thursday said Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan should stop talking about coup.

Sukampol said Jatuporn has talked too much and too often.

On Wednesday, Jatuporn claimed that he had heard from informants, who work for US intelligence agency, that the military would stage a coup before April.

"Jatuporn has talked too much. He should not have talked about it. It will be best if he stops talking now," Sukampol said.

"The words of 'I think' and 'I heard' should not be used because they caused problems and caused unnecessary panic."

Red-shirt MP Urged to Stop Trumping Coup Rumor

BANGKOK: -- The defense minister asks a red-shirt MP to refrain from talking about a military coup given it is unlikely to take place.

With regards to Pheu Thai party-list MP Jatuporn Prompan's claim that he has been tipped by US intelligence that a coup will take place in April, Defense Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat called Jatuporn a panic-monger, given a military coup cannot be easily carried out even with cooperation from all three armed forces leaders.

The minister said if he meets Jatuporn, he will ask the latter to cease commenting about a coup. He maintained he has always checked the possibility of each coup rumor.

He is confident a coup will not take place and asks the Special Branch police to see whether those who spread such rumors can be prosecuted.

He then questioned why Jatuporn did not meet with him to inform him personally about the coup report.

The minister went on to comment that both opponents and advocates of the Nitirat Group's push for amendment on the lese majeste law should cease their activities given their moves have not been beneficial to the country.

He then said the armed force leaders' criticisms against the proposed amendment is nothing out of the ordinary and their remarks are from their obligation to protect the Monarchy. The minister believes the military top brass will not comment on the issue any further so the Nitirat Group should terminate its campaign.

Sukumpol today received his visiting Laotian counterpart General Duangjai Pichit ahead of the Thai-Laotian General Border Committee meeting tomorrow at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok.

The only coop that Jatuporn should interest himself in is the chicken coop. In there he will find creatures with similar sized brains that, like him, spend all day running around clucking and spouting crap.

I wonder if this brainless idiot will call off his red mob rally.

Will he get the funds (from abroad) to pay for his 'rent a mob' rally?

PM Defends Red-shirt MP's Coup Comment

BANGKOK: -- The prime minister defends a red-shirt Pheu Thai MP's claim about a coup being prepared for April and says he has good intention in disclosing the information.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra speculated that Pheu Thai party-list MP and red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan's claim that he received US intelligence that a coup is being planned for April is most likely an attempt to keep those who are thinking about it in line.

She noted everyone would want assurance that a coup is not going to happen and if the military comes out with such assurance, then the issue should end.

Yingluck asks the public not to think that Jatuporn wants to stir up turmoil. She is confident everyone wants the country to see peace.

The PM added there has been no reports about a coup while all the armed forces leaders have also dismissed such a rumor.

She warned though that such speculations must be made in line with the law.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said he has yet to examine the matter and stated it is the responsibility of Deputy PM in charge of national security General Yutthasak Sasiprapa to look into the rumor.

Chalerm also refused to further comment on the issue and said there is no need to ask the red-shirt MP to clarify his statement. He expressed confidence that the matter will not create any problems or rifts between Thailand and the US.

In other words, the PM speculated that her MP and fellow Pheu Thai party member may have liedused his imagination. That's no problem, that's why we have politicians smile.png

Don't you now need to be licensed to practice fortune-telling/prophecy, and then, if you're wrong, you have to compensate for losses incurred? Thought I read that somewhere recently.

Interesting that they are listening to the USA & publicizing this, considering the row over the USA TERRORISM alert hurting tourism. Would not also a COUP D'TAT also hurt Thai tourism? Funny how they claimed the USA was overreacting and mistaken and insert any Thai excuse here, but now they are touting a USA alert. AS IF the USA would give a crap about a coup in Thailand. Did they warn PM clone's bro mr T of his pending coup? Didn't think so, so why would they warn little sis clone? More PTP propaganda.

Is PM clone planning any trips outside of Thailand in April? hehehe

We can only hope so and with a one way ticket. Maybe joining the boss in Dubai. But that would leave Chalerm in charge. Oh......I forgot he is already in charge.
