Terrorist Warning Will Stay, But People Not Stopped From Visiting Thailand: US Ambassador

Given recent references, mostly vague and inconspicuous, to Thailand as a possible failed state, this isn't surprising from the US. Nevertheless, I'm sure the State Department is up to its regular manipulative shenanigans. That picture is too close and rather unflattering. She looks less real than the girl's smile at Au Bon Pain. And sometimes, I can't help but comment on the US government's obliqueness as a totally unflattering American phenomenon. Foreign governments like China love it, because they can play right in tune. I just want to say to "What are ya blathering on about now, Kennedy?" This does fit with the current Thai government's concept of proper evidence: "If we say its so, ITS SO! Are listening to...?"

It is obvious that English is not your first language, so "What are ya blathering on about now?" It is very difficult to understand what you are trying to say.

Why do Thailand feel the need to concern itself with what an Embassy post on its website to it's own citizens? I am an American who has traveled the globe over several decades. While I will check the U.S. State Dept's websites for travel warning and advisories, they are not and never will be the deciding factor on whether I choose to visit a place or not. Thailand is making too big a deal out of this whole travel warning thing. Why mention what Israel and China are doing on there websites? As Americans, we don't care what other countries are posting/ not posting on there Embassies websites.

I hereby grant Thailand Embassy's located in the United States of America the "right" to post any traveling warning or message to Thai citizens they feel is appropriate. Fell better now!!!

It would be a waste of time to terrorize Yanks in Thailand. There is not enough of them. There are vastly more Brits, Scandanavians, Aussies & Canadians in Thailand, than Americans. At least that is my experience all over Thailand. I wonder if the USA obtained "reliable" information from a water boarded 65 year old Afghanny @ Guantanamo; or some some computer jock working @ NSA's San Francisco "Switch", which reviews all the world's electronic info ... i/c yours typed here in thai Visa.

Had you actually taken the time to read the article, you would have found that the Israelis originated the alert and it was picked up by multiple nations, not just the US. You would have also found that the warning was for US citizens to be alert in public places. It was later released that the primary targets were to be Israeli interests in Thailand. The only concern for the US was to minimize injury / death to US citizen who would be caught up in collateral damage in the event of an attack. So you can take your US conspiracy theories and put them where the sun doesn't shine.

Didn't someone in the Govt. proclaim that the warning was removed by the US some day ago...?
They even made a press release about it. Amazing Thailand strikes again. clap2.gif

Yes, they obviously saw that it was removed from the home page on the US Embassy website and deduced that the alert had been removed, not just shuffled to a back page. Then announce to the world that the alert had been lifted. Rocket scientists, all of them.

There was never a really threat that some terrorists would blow up tourist places in Bangkok. That was just some scaremongering fantasy warning born out of some paranoia by the US.

That's rich. It was in the newspapers. Oh you mean, the statement of the Hezbollah linked person caught with the warehouse full of fertilizer, is that it?

Alas, someone else that cannot be bothered to read or is too obtuse to understand what has been written on the topic. You can surmise all you want, but when multiple governments all release the same alerts for their citizens in Thailand, I will pay heed, regardless of the target. You can go about your business as you see fit.

The man who lost his legs are a Lebanese bombing suspect at the moment...I would hold off on any collections for him.

One version is that the bomber was the one most badly injured. Anyone know the facts? Don't know how much money we'd raise for a bomber on TV, tho... sounds like, if he lives, he'll have a long time to think about whether it was worth it.

Heard he died ... any truth to this, anyone?

Reports are he may have been iranian. Thailand says that the U.S lifts it's warning and there is no threats of terrorism or bombings. I guess the Thai foriegn office will be eating it's words now. Just waiting for TAT to release thier report saying tourists flocking to Thailand despite lastest bombings.

2012 Terrorism Tour, 1,500 baht. First a stop at the shophouse where the fertilizer was stored, then a drive to the apartment that blew up and a drive to the spot where the bomb blew the terrorist legs off, the last stop will be to the office of the Foreign Minister who insisted all embassies remove warinings and declared Thailand free of terrorist and threats.

Strange. When Pheu Thai Party MP Jatuporn Phromphan allegedly (i.e. he said so himself) received a report from a U.S. Intelligence agency of a possible coup in April he didn't mention a destabilizing terrorist attack. Maybe he just stopped reading when he saw the word "coup"?
